Is UT or Florida the 2nd Best SEC Program?

All-time it's defintiely Tennessee. It's not really arguable. UF didn't even really compete in the league until Pell started cheating in the 80s.

As to Bamawriter's point, you might be able to argue that when Steve Spurrier the player arrived in the mid sixties they were becoming competitive; but they didn't even win their first SEC title (without cheating) until Spurrier the coach arrived in the 90's (1991, IIRC). All time, its Bama, UT, Ga, LSU, Florida and Auburn in that order.

Explain to me why a Heisman matters?

It is a trophy given to a player without any sort of defined criteria, voted on by past recipients and certain members of the media.

It is heavily influenced by lobbying from teams, exposure and pressure by the media, and has no definitive criteria.

The Heisman has some historical significance, but the past 20 years has proven (at least to me) that it might be one step above a Nickelodean Kid's choice award.

Take away Heisman's and UT is the second best SEC football program historically behind Bama:
Who Is The Best SEC Football Program Of All-Time?

All - time, I would say U.T. However; Florida has two national championships in men's basketball. They have (3) Heisman trophies and (4) national championships in football.

U.T. has no Heisman trophies, no national championships in mens basketball. However; we have 8 national championships in women's basketball....

I agree. If you add Heisman's the UT is fourth.

I don't see why one would use the Heisman as a factor in determining the historical relevancy of a program. I also don't understand why one would give as much credit to a divisional title as one would to a conference title or a national title.

This article is really dumb.

What does basketball have to do with a discussion about the historical ranking of football programs?

It's talking about football Rudy. Basketball has nothing to do with the occasion.

UT is 2nd based on the historical relevance being longer

Because if you do not win your division then you will not have a chance to win the conference. Winning a division is important.

was notre dame better than Tennessee when ph beat jm for Heisman no the domers only won two games .So the trophy does not mean crap . i do not know or care about all the winners of the Heisman but players from the best teams do not always win . I think UT was better than Michigan when Manning got robbed . And South Carolina was not that good when George Rogers won the Heisman. It is an individual award that has nothing to do with how good a program is. A program is only defined by wins and losses and by Conference and National Championships not individual awards.

UT got off to a huge head start historically. UF is still playing catch-up in all-time wins and SEC titles.

Not sure how the number of Heisman winners adds or takes away from a school's place in history. Bama is hands down the SEC's all-time #1 program, and they only recently had their first Heisman winner.

Not saying it isn't important. But the author's formula gives division titles the exact same weight as conference titles, and that's just silly.
