Israel vs Palestinians

When you dress as a terrorist, covering your face and call for the extermination of a country l don't consider that protesting.

I also don't think if people dressed like the Clan showed up on a College campus and took over buildings I doubt the school administration or the left would be as tolerant on "Free" speech.
Putting people protesting a genocide in the same discussion as the KKK is hilarious

I don't think so. Compare and contrast is a legitimate way to assess the application of rules, norms, and ideas of fairness.

It's done wrt free speech all the time.

I've read nothing so far that would lead me to believe Khalil has done anything illegal beyond civil disobedience. Based on what I've seen is be hard pressed to agree with his deportation. Again, unless there are other factors.

On the other hand I find these protests ring hollow for me. I didn't see them pressuring the university to divest and suspend academic ties to Palestinians for the horrors of Oct 7th and I couldn't imagine the university allowing Jews to chant anti Palestinian slogans and call for the overtaking of Gaza and the West Bank.
The divesting idea is about the fact that the money we send there is contributing to death. I don't think we're as "invested" in Hamas in the first place, so it doesn't apply the same way.

There are plenty of pro-Israel protests on college campuses too where I'm sure people have talked about annexing Gaza, there just aren't as many students on Israel's side

The far right DID have a protest on a college campus, in Charlottesville. Remember that? Where someone drove a car into a bunch of people and killed someone and it was "very fine people" or whatever

Hating Israel slaughtering a bunch of civilians isn't "hating Jews"
Yes I’m sure the all time high of anti-Semitic attacks on college campuses last year were because they love the Jews. I’m sure the 69 year old Jewish man that was killed at one of the protests in 23’ was out of love.

Denying that Palestinians hate Jews is like denying the far right hates Jews

No, it was because the ADL started calling every protest an "anti-Semitic attack"

Many of those protestors ARE Jews, genius. I would love to show the video of that one clown who went into a protest yelling "I AM A JEW. ATTACK ME!" And everyone just ignored her, as she didn't notice she was standing next to a "Jews for a Free Palestine" sign lol. The person deleted it but I'm sure it's somewhere out there

“You have to hate the Jews more than you love your own children”

Ahh yes there’s Jews that are protesting too so obviously they don’t hate Jews. Great logic. Gays protesting too so obviously Palestine is pro LGBT

Does the righteousness of the cause determine how much latitude one is given under the First?
No, and I realize my post implies otherwise because I thought he was making a different comparison than he was. But as I later said, the far right did have a protest like that without any real discussions about limiting speech as a result IIRC

You’re right, I don’t remember any real discussions to limit speech (outside of the “hate speech isn’t free speech” nonsense) as a result of that riot.

Though it wasn’t students, and was not on campus. It was in a city park.

I thought the tangential discussion was about the probable double standard in favor of the anti-Israel protests on campus.

The argument being that if:
-Instead of faces cloaked in keffiyeh, they were faces cloaked in white hoods.
-Instead of advocating for the destruction of Israel, the destruction of Black America.
-Instead of death to Zionists, it was death to black people.

It would elicit a profoundly different response, and a much heavier hand. And I think we all likely know that to be true.
