It appears Jaylen McCollough will return for 2023

How do we know it’s not coaching and scheming? Martinez needs to go that’s what we all know. Now maybe Banks can do better with better talent, but when till be enough for him as well?

If CJH invites Coach M back we will all KNOW how to value what you KNOW. OBVIOUSLY another member of the MMM. MISERABLE MARTINEZ MINIONS. Looking forward to the INSPITE of him posts if progression with new faces shows marked improvement.

Speed doesn't matter if you're going the wrong direction. We need smart football players just as much as we need fast ones.
I think he’s proven he can be a good football player. And I think that given his skill set he might be better served playing closer to the line.

Interesting thought but we don't have any better safeties. SS doesn't necessarily have to be the fastest and they're typically the safety that rolls into the box anyway. A defense is like a puzzle. It all has to work together. There could be instances where it looks like McCollough gets beat but he's trying to cover someone else's guy because of a blown coverage or another DB just getting beat.

Was the play where he tackles our CB someone else’s fault? People criticize cbs but the safeties are horrible.

I agree, but I think we’ve had some corners that are playing out of a position, when they should be playing safety. If we can improve at corner I think it creates a domino effect .

This is great news. I love the attitude! People saying that he needs to get better is true, maybe this is the reason he is coming back, to work on his craft. The defense as a whole needs much improvement, this is a step in the right direction for sure!!

GO VOLS!

I love this attitude. Further evidence that our beloved program is once again headed in the right direction.

“When I committed to this University, I made a decision to give my ALL for Tennessee,” McCollough wrote. “I came here fully on a mission to leave a LEGACY bigger than just myself, to create opportunities and open doors for the ones after me. Never fold or wavier on the goals or promises you set for yourself. Thank God I’m not the same person I was 4 years ago. Thank God for amazing opportunities and the people in my life. With that being said, it’s still 1 more degree and 2 championships that I set out to achieve once I came here. Let’s go get them.”

My boy !! He can’t start at safety. He has to play star and come off the edge. He’s been such a liability at safety. Great for leadership bad for product imo

Also agree. I think Slaughter should be starting at STAR and McDonald should be a true safety. He has trouble with quick slot WRs and I think Slaughter is better there than outside. I'd have McCollough at SS, then let Walker and McDonald battle for FS next year

I don’t wish anyone to do bad. I hope we have made improvements, but then again when you have the worse pass defense in the country you can only go up. From how bad we looked this year in pass coverage, I have a hard time believing it’s only the players.

Bottom line I BELIEVE CJH will do what he believes is best for the team from the most informed position out there. If he weights talent as primary cause and/or continuity of room or incoming class, then he will be back. Could possibly be HOW he answered KEY recruits questions this CRITICAL cycle is a key. Probably had to address the less informed restless natives public outcries too.

Lol when a player has had 5 different coaches and is still ass it’s not the coaching
Comments like this is why I hate some fans. It doesn't take a football genius to know he, and every player on the team needs improvement to some degree. But we desperately need more attitudes like his. Hopefully the coach we have now can get the very best from each player and use them accordingly, but you can't "coach" that type of attitude.

To call a player "ass" , any player, but especially one that just made a comment like he did, is just unnecessary.

I just read a post by you in the RF where you said "No value add to cheap shots". MAYBE you SHOULD practice what you PREACH!

Yep, usually among those “everybody program has them” category. Maybe sincere but provide all the value add of tea baggers and mattress burners. Forcing the staff to recruit around their public offerings with players thinking of coming to UT.

I am attacking the oft used premise that opinions based on opinions are protected by free speech rights.

My premise is totally based on Coach making it a fact, not my speculation or preference he will. He put his position in play, not me.

But for the record, if he is back OR if he is not, what is the value add TO THE PROGRAM at this point in time of his post.

I'm not sure if it's you or me but I'll just go ahead and cut out any invitation to argue by admitting it's me. I'm not sure what your point is.

What do you suggest be done?

So what and who are the MMM?

Was originally defined as MISERABLE MARTINEZ MINIONS. Those that have determined he is the primary issue with our pretty much universally accepted bad DB play to the point they are wishing for or promoting his removal WHILE he is trying to get staff identified solutions to join and improve it as the position coach. HOW is that a positive? HOW is that not a negative action? How is not countering it an acceptance of it’s validity?

Mcculough takes terrible angles and is very slow. At the end of the day, these kids are athletes at a big time program. This is a message board…. I should’ve worded it differently, but the point is that even though he’s staying he’s replaceable. Hope we hit the portal bc if the same Mcculough is your starting safety, you’re not winning the East.

Does the post in question tend to incentivize or de-incentivize a prospect to become a VOL if he or a supporter read it(them)? Does a total lack of challenges give them pause?
