It has occurred to me....

Getting someone in Tech support that speaks English is tough these days.

Depends on who and when you call. Dell has just as much tech support inside the US as outside. And the rest is in India where everyone speaks English. It may be hard to deal with the accent, but they speak good English.

There was a report this morning that the Census is going to start sending things like water bottles and other stuff to people to get them to send their questionairre back. You know where those things work made? Overseas. Nice work Government. Cheap labor I guess...

Used to be the majority was in the US, and you can think our unions and wage laws for that. Cheap labor bro.

You can also thank the growth of the industry for it. The need for tech support outgrew the capacity. 100% of their sales force for US consumers is inside the US.

If you look at programs now and 10 years ago, there is a ton of difference and there is no need for the 10 people to support the program that used to be needed. Everything is written for max efficiency, and because of super fast computers and remote access, there is only need for 1 to 2 people to do the job it used to take the 10 to do. So, it's not a wash bro, that's what sucks. If it was, you would see those people who get laid off going into a different part of the company most of the time, but it doesn't happen like that.

Actually Eric, I think the opposite is true. Computer programs are not written for max efficiency because of CPU speed and size and massive storage. The era of tight programming has long since disappeared.

More people are now needed to support home grown programs because all company functions now apparently need to be computerized. However, you are correct for smaller companies that use canned programs. They seem to be more stable than ever.

I just got finished seeing one of my personal friends go through selling his business because he had too much debt. Businesses and people think they can manage it, but I would say that the reason 90% of small businesses fail is because they don't know how to manage finances. Debt is not OK, and just think if there was no debt in a company at all. Would make a much less stressful environment, IMO.

Without knowing, I would guess he mismanaged his business as much as he did his debt. 90% of small businesses failures is because they are under capitalized. Most small business owners also have an ego that won't let them acknowledge mistakes easily.

That doesn't make any sense, Eric. New jobs will be created as quickly as old ones are replaced. It's the way it's always been.

This... Yea we arent making shoes and clothes hangers anymore but now we have companies like Apple, Google, Amazon, Ebay, Facebook and Yahoo. All of these companies now have 10's of thousands of employees and pay well. Not only that but our Financial markets are the deepest, meaning if you want to start a company and need financing, you come to America.

Yeah, I know the French pay a lot in taxes but receive a lot from the government. Yet, despite this, they've got one of the world's strongest economies.

not only that, but if you own land and that land has oil, gas, gold, treasure or anything worth value below the soil, it belongs to the government. Not YOU
