It is time we stop claiming Florida and Pittsburgh as good wins

Who cares how it looks for the SEC? Tennessee won, thats all that matters.
Yep. The last I checked they don’t take pictures and they don’t go back and look at teams after you beat that tail. They only ask you if you win. Nothing else matters. Either do or do not. 7 and 0 is the ONLY thing that counts.

How does Ohio State's one win over a ranked team, Notre Dame, compare?

Ugh... you don't want to go there. For one, Notre Dame is better than Pittsburgh and #2, they won in regulation by more than one score.

If this was 1980s, we would have a tie on our schedule and be 6-0-1.

I guess you are correct, I was just watching the Pittsburgh game and it makes me mad how bad they are playing. I thought they would be a 9 or 10 win team with the way they played us. Their offense looks horrendous (they do have a good defense). Louisville mostly scored off Pittsburgh's turnovers.
Pittsburgh has definitely underperformed for the talent on their defense, but the way that game went tenn vs Pittsburg. Listen don’t think about the season after, think about that game. Pittsburg undefeated, at home. We got Florida next week. We come in, start the game horrible, we struggled, every team in the country is gonna have one of those sluggish games. But ya know what bro?? We came back and won that damn game. We started Pittsburgs season to go outta control.
That game was the first evidence into this team overcoming adversity, and that’s an important piece of this team man and it started there.

My apologies on the thread, I am just angry at Pittsburgh with how bad they have looked since playing Tennessee. It makes me wish we would have beaten them last year and beat them by more this year.
Ohio state is gonna play nobody all year except Michigan and they'll slide right into the playoff. Kirk will talk about all the great wins osu had. We're complaining about Pitt not being a good win.

We’re not good enough yet defensively to think in terms of style points against anybody.

Agree... this is what scares me to a degree. I think of us like a Basketball team that is very good but lives and dies with the 3-point game. If they have an off night shooting, it can be rough.

I just hope we don't have an off day.

I don’t care if it was on the moon. This is dumb. Nobody is trying to get mileage out of those wins.
@volbound1700
GAVol just said it best.

What is your takeout? Are your simply trying to disparage the Vols season so far?

What makes you think the quality of our wins over FL & Pitt has any bearing on the rest of the season?

Some of us watched the Sugar Vols take two ties in Neyland en route to a #4 ranking and an indelible place in the hearts of Volunteer fans everywhere.

I posted about the game and none of my posts were negative.

The only negative posts that I have had relate to the Pittsburgh game. It doesn't look good for SEC that one of the best teams (if not the best team) struggled to beat an ACC team that may not even make a bowl game with how they are playing.

There's no such thing as a bad road win, regardless of score, vs a P5 team. We had a bad start, and a bad 3rd quarter and still closed the game outscoring them 27-10. We had a last second FG to win by one on the road in 1998 vs what became a 4 loss Big East team. Pitt was by far the worst offense performance of the year. Since that game we're averaging 51.5 points per game and three of those games have been against teams that are #12, #8, and #1 on the talent composite list.

There's even less of a world in which we beat Florida and it's not a good win. I don't care if they finish 4-8. They have talent. Their losses are to a top 3 Tennessee team, an LSU team that will probably be around 15th-18th next week and a top 20 Kentucky team, by a total of 25 points. And it's been incredibly hard to win that game for most of the last 15 years for us. Really it's been a tough game to win since Neyland left.

If you were giving the options before the season of being 7-0 but every win was by 1 point, or being 5-2 but those 5 wins were by 30+ which would you choose?

I say claim it. People want to put Ohio State number one and their best win is over a team that fired it's coach. (Wisconsin)

When did we get so picky that we can just toss wins away? Florida got beat by a good LSU team and there is no shame in that.

To hear some fans tell it, '98 was the story of a questionable pass interference call, a missed easy field goal, a careless fumble, an injured starting quarterback, and a generally poorly-coached SEC.

When you’re mad at a team you don’t follow for not playing well? You’re inventing turmoil for yourself only. We’re the only team to dominate a LSU team who just dominated an undefeated Ole Miss team…happy bout that?

Both teams suck

Pittsburgh lost to Georgia Tech and is about to lose to Louisville to fall 4-3

Florida is 4-3 and about to be 4-4

Those games are actually embarrassing that we didn't beat both teams by 3+ TDs.

You truly suck as a fan if you are searching for reasons to discredit what this team has accomplished this year.

don’t know how football works huh? They’re good wins simply because they were at the time. Period. If we played either again we’d beat them worse, we’ve gotten better. They haven’t.

I'll speak in defense of the OP. He's got a right to point out that two wins early on don't seem as impressive as they did at the time. Calling him a troll and a bad fan is just arrogant. Who the heck are you to tell someone what makes them a good fan or not? Maybe he's just more circumspect than you is all. Jesus.

It's really f-ing great that we took care of business against Alabama and LSU, cuz it shows that we can legitimately beat good teams, and do it on the road. The Vols look fantastic and I'm loving the ride. But yeah, I check Pitt and Fla every week hoping they win, so that it solidifies our future arguments for a CFP bid if/when it comes down to a narrow decision. Too bad those wins are starting to look less impressive than they did at the time.

But as someone else here pointed out, what's more important is what they were ranked at the time. That's why I rooted for KY last week, and for GA all season. We can beat these teams, and legitimately claim the toughest schedule in the country.
