It is time we stop claiming Florida and Pittsburgh as good wins

Agree... this is what scares me to a degree. I think of us like a Basketball team that is very good but lives and dies with the 3-point game. If they have an off night shooting, it can be rough.

I just hope we don't have an off day.

So far we haven't. I don't recall us ever having an offense -- even during Manning's tenure -- that didn't stall out for extended periods of time. Heupel's offense run by Hooker just keeps going and going and going and šŸ‡

I posted about the game and none of my posts were negative.

The only negative posts that I have had relate to the Pittsburgh game. It doesn't look good for SEC that one of the best teams (if not the best team) struggled to beat an ACC team that may not even make a bowl game with how they are playing.

Great teams improve throughout the season. The Tennessee team that beat LSU and Bama is a much different team than the one that edged out Pitt and Florida.

I'll speak in defense of the OP. He's got a right to point out that two wins early on don't seem as impressive as they did at the time. Calling him a troll and a bad fan is just arrogant. Who the heck are you to tell someone what makes them a good fan or not? Maybe he's just more circumspect than you is all. Jesus.

It's really f-ing great that we took care of business against Alabama and LSU, cuz it shows that we can legitimately beat good teams, and do it on the road. The Vols look fantastic and I'm loving the ride. But yeah, I check Pitt and Fla every week hoping they win, so that it solidifies our future arguments for a CFP bid if/when it comes down to a narrow decision. Too bad those wins are starting to look less impressive than they did at the time.

But as someone else here pointed out, what's more important is what they were ranked at the time. That's why I rooted for KY last week, and for GA all season. We can beat these teams, and legitimately claim the toughest schedule in the country.

I rather have a creampuff schedule like Clemson.

Agreed. TN won some close games early against teams that seem to have gone backwards since; meanwhile, we have become a much more complete team.

I guess this would be my reply to the OP. Not the personal attacks.

Same fans are clamoring about 4 ranked teams.

Florida and Pittsburgh are NOT ranked teams nor will they be anytime soon. Pittsburgh maybe one of the worse teams in the ACC right now and it took overtime to beat them.
LMAO, I'll whip out the tOSU standard and say, "they were when we beat 'em." Tip your bartenders and servers, and donate to Hurricane Ian victims!

Both teams suck

Pittsburgh lost to Georgia Tech and is about to lose to Louisville to fall 4-3

Florida is 4-3 and about to be 4-4

Those games are actually embarrassing that we didn't beat both teams by 3+ TDs.

We weren't that good early in the season - we have gotten better as the season has progressed.
We still are not infallible - Also, If you are going to drop those two then please bump LSU as a great win, they would be a one loss team if we hadn't beaten the
breaks off of them at home. Alabama may end up being national champ -

I love people calling me a troll when I was the one stating we could beat Alabama and staying positive in several of the game threads this year.

I make one thread pointing out Pittsburgh (well I did have a couple of other on the same topic this year) because we keep bragging about that game as a ranked team but they look far from it.
When discussing wins vs ranked teamsā€¦ it only means said team was ranked at the time of the game. Thatā€™s why Tennessee is given credit for (4) Top 25 wins. If Alabama somehow lost 3 regular season games, Tennessee would still be listed as having a win vs a Top 5 team.

Great post, thanks.

Hey FSU is in the ACC and Clemson beat them soundly but FSU beat LSU.

Pittsburgh nearly beat Tennessee.

Maybe ACC isn't that far off from SEC.

Last time I looked, there is no Bama, Georgia Bulldogs or LSU in the ACC. With the way South Carolina is playing, you know Clemson is worried. They could be the team that keeps them from the playoffs

You got Clemson, Wake Forest, NC State, Syracuse, and Florida State.

Pittsburgh is doing badly partly because they have been hit badly with injuries. They just lost another starter for the season. Many more are playing but not up to their usual standards. We got them early and on the road. Nothing wrong with struggling on the road early in the season, it can take time to gel

As for Florida, they simply are just hot and cold. They can play really well like when they did against Utah, or like complete crap like they did against Kentucky. Obviously, with it being a big rivalry, they were amped up to play us. But donā€™t forget the final score isnā€™t a great reflection of the full game. We let our foot off the gas and got complacent and allowed them to get that close.

There simply are just too many variables to complain about wins. Just let it go.

Clemson was legit when they were stealing talent away from the Vols because of poor coaching choices.

Thank God we redeemed ourselves and beat Bama and LSU. Will beating KY and GA in the next 2 weeks bring us buck up?
