It will be us and Florida this year for the SEC

I truly think UK will be in the hunt too, but it's not too far of stretch to think that they may drop out of the race once their road games start. Inexperience has the potential to summon a plethora of problems, and that could be UK's demise next season. Unfortunately, I don't really think that'll be the case.

GO VOLS!

I feel like this year we certainly have more talent, especially offensively. Of course talent doesnt necessarily mean championships, i.e. UK last year. The experience factor is huge, and we're certainly lacking in that. The transfer of Fields to the team this year is going to be a far greater impact on the team than most people think. And the (hopeful) improvement of the returning guys meshed with some talented youngsters coming in gives us a good chance to do big things.

I think we'll be about like last year, barring injury. A team that if somehow gets hot in march they can make a run at the final 4.

Didn't really hurt them on the road during the season last year.

No, it didn't. But, this years team is going to be different. When things weren't going well last year, we could scrap the DDM and post up Cousins, Patterson, and Orton and dump the ball down low and control games. Thats a huge weapon in combating inexperience and hostile crowds.

Next season will be different. Kanter and Jones are athletic and will score, but its not going to be as easy. Also, we are thinner at the PG position losing both Wall and Bledsoe. Knight, while great probably won't be able to take over and control games from that position like Wall did. I think the road will provide some bumps for us this year. UF, UT, UGA and Vandy are all potential road losses.

However, I think UK and UT will both suffer from this effect. I think Florida gets the slight edge as the favorite right now, although barely. (Nothing like the Florida Homer floating around here who thinks they will run roughshod over the SEC).

I wouldn't take UF over UK and UT at this point. They have just as many questions and the guy that everyone is calling their star is overrated as all hell.

In all honesty, I don't truly believe they are the favorite. That can be proven by reading that thread where I argued with said UF homer. Returning 5 starters (even though they are soft as hell) is the only redeeming virtue that they have, and the only reason they are not at the bottom of those three schools. I give them that edge by default, but its not my gut feeling.

I think at the end of the season, you can win the SEC with 4 losses. All 3 teams, unless someone gets really hot, will hover around the 12-4 mark, give or take a game either way.

I have been watching SEC basketball for about 40 years. Picking a team other than Ky at the top is usually not smart - no matter how it looks on paper. That being said, I do agree that it will be at least a three team, wide open race. I see no clear favorite. I do have trouble believing in Fla. until they prove themselves again, though.

My bad guys, guess I should have paid attention that is was a basketball thread. I think we have a great chance to win the SEC. Brian Williams has to dominate the interior and Scotty Hopson needs to stop looking lost on the court at times. I think Tobias will make an immediate impact and Melvin is clutch and has great toughness. Need a few more bench players to step up (Woolridge, Tatum and the freshman).

You think Tatum will sit bench?

Anyone who doesn't think UK is going to be in the running has lost their mind.

As of now I think it's a three way toss-up. I also think that, while they won't win the East, UGA is going to cause fits this year for those three teams.

Your team obviously will be very different, but the rest of the SEC will essentially be mediocre or just absolutely suck other than the UT, UK, UF. UK is traditionally a very good road team, and considering the level of competition that you will face in conference on the road, I don't expect you guys to have much trouble.

Yeah, we are not at any more of a disadvantage than any other team. But you had to notice the number of games that we literally escaped by the most narrow of margins. There were games we won that we simply shouldn't have, if we couldn't have rested on the shoulders of Wall or Cousins. This year when someone goes on a 15-3 run and closes within 3 points on the road, I don't know that we can mail it in to the post for those guaranteed points to slow their momentum. I think we lose 3 or 4 games in the SEC this season.

Like Miller is so tough :)

But cmon man thats bs

No, its not. Anytime UF faced a physical team (i.e Kentucky) they got man handled inside and dominated on the boards. Tyus belongs as an extra in predator movies, and Parsons would do better as a member of a boy band than as a basketball player. If it weren't for him pulling a couple buzzer beaters out of his ass, Florida's season would have looked drastically different.

Florida returns experience, but not toughness.
