It's a whole new ballgame: 2008 New York Yankees Thread

What a great game last night!

11-0 at one point to the worthless Orioles is just plain shameful.

Mussina came back down to earth apparently. Hope this isn't a sign of him hitting the wall.

Moose's career numbers against the O's are terrible- 4.77 era and .288 BAA- so for now I'll chalk it up to that.

Well, it wasn't that great while it lasted. Pending the news of Joba's MRI and consultation with the Grim Reaper...oops, I mean Dr. James Andrews, I believe our season is pretty close to dead.

Pettitte has come back down to earth and we have a long reliever taking Rasner's spot in the rotation, who may or may not take Joba's next turn depending on whether or not Cash will want to bring Ian "all I can throw is a 92 mph fastball" Kennedy up before we wait for Hughes/ (gulp) Pavano to be ready by Labor Day.

Same old ballgame.

It may be a good thing that we miss the playoff chase this year. That way I can concentrate soley on football!

It would be a crime for Yankee Stadium not to host any playoff baseball in its final year.

You mean the same Rays that are 5-7 against the Yankees this year and haven't beaten NY since April?

Yeah, they will, again, mop the floor with the Yankees...

Good start to the series last night, but I can't help but think we are just helping the Sux cause by beating the team in first for them.

Sportscenter gave some cute little stats last night-

We need to go 19-5 over the rest of the way while the Rays and Sox need to go 12-12 in order to take the WC.

Fortunately we play the Sox and Rays 6 and 5 times more respectively, unfortunately we play those two teams plus the Angels and every other good team in the AL before the end of the season as well.

I'm praying for a miracle.

Youre kicking our butts. Sports Center loves this, the "breakdown' they've been waiting for from the Rays.

Hardly. Yanks just have TB's number this year. Good job, no easy task to win even 1 game against us in the Trop, much less two. Im sure Red Sux nation appreciates the help too. :)

Donzo. Thanks to all those haters who contributed to the demise of this 2008 team. I hope you feel great about it.

hahahahahahaha. I can't believe the Yankees picked up Nick Swisher. Giambi's numbers are down, but they aren't anywhere near that bad.

Swisher doesn't make what Giambi did, and he can play the OF when Matsui goes down for the 3rd straight year. It's also a back up plan for when we don't get Tex.

We gave up Betemit and a guy who will never crack our rotation for him.

Even you can't butter him up, especially to me. He was the worst hitting regular in the league this season

Maybe the Yankees can get Sabathia, Lowe, Burnett, and Peavy. Seriously though, I agree about the stupidity of that Nick Swisher trade.

It's the worst year of his career and he still hit 24 homeruns. I'm willing to give him a chance off the bench.

he's only had a four year career. He's a lifetime .244 hitter with an average of 25 hrs a year. OBP isn't bad, but the Yankees could have done oh so much better. It's like they aren't even going to try for Texiera.

Looks like the Yanks are moving on to pitching, and pitching only now.

Swish is probably going to start at first. I don't know much about the guy since I never follow Oakland or CWS in depth, but after hearing that Ozzie batted Swish leadoff for part of the year, I can see why he had a bad season.

Just because the man can draw a walk, doesn't mean he should be leading off. What a terrible idea for him.

Any of you yankee fans watch Yankeeography? Just bought it as a gift and would like to know if it was a good buy or not.

It got the YES network several Emmy's. I've seen a couple, and they're pretty good.
