It's apparent after Bryce Brown's performance tonight...

Brown had a good game against a 2-8 team that is among the worst in the league against the run. And he fumbled twice in one quarter. Gruden pointed out his poor ball carrying technique where he carrys the ball away from his body. I wouldn't rain the multi million dollar salary on him quite yet. Or the Hall of Fame.

Plus he may be out after this season when Philly cleans house and a new coach comes in. Back ups tend to move around a lot in those situations.

If this is due to some phantom "handler", then said "handler" did his job. He protected Bryce and got him into the NFL.

Nothing 'phantom' about Bryce having a handler as it was widely reported that Brian Butler served as a mentor to Brown even during his recruitment. That being said, if this was a master plan to keep Bryce healthy for the pros, then job well done. The ultimate goal is to make a living off of your talents. While it was a calculated and risky move, if true it worked like a charm.

It's the coaches and universities responsibility to do their due diligence to decide if certain talented players are worth the headache. I was always skeptical of Bryce working out for us with all of the outside influences that were around him coming out of high school and even during his stay here.

I for one am thankful for the year he gave us and the hard work he put in while at UT and hope nothing but the best for the young man in the NFL.

Does it matter? Even if he owned the field his first year and rushed for 1500 yards, he was still leaving when Kiffen left. How sour would that taste to see an awesome running back go somewhere else while our running game struggled?

At the direction of his handler he basically sandbagged his entire college career to avoid injury. How else do yo go from being the feature back at UT in year one and wind up being 4th string at KSU...then suddenly "Beast out" in the NFL? His "handler" robbed fans and Bryce himself of what could have been a stellar college career. One word "Greed"!!!
Can you blame him, now look a life of a running back in the NFL IS LIKE 2.3YEARS, used his head, will get the big bucks in the next contract.

I believe thats what you get when the stars follow the players...3-4 stars are working to make it...5 stars already have the ability and just have to pass the time...before the draft..

May I present to the court of opinion Exhibit A as to what happens when you aren't "greedy"? Exhibit named Marcus Lattimore... his lack of greed has cost him millions as he left his career on the field for a lousy 50 grand versus being locked in for 8 million a year....

Yes an education is priceless, when your outlook is down with the rest of us mere mortals. But to a potential NFL star who is going to make 10's of millions, that degree to make even 7 figures becomes almost worthless.

Carolina run defense helps...see what he does vs. a top ranked defense in NFL.

and here we are with a 1 win SEC season and Bama is on there way to another BCSNCG. Maybe Dooley should have tried a little harder keeping Bryce around.

Dooley should have gave him the guaranteed carries and starting job. His ego was too big to do that. And he was too bad of a coach to realize that T Poole was no good and BB was a talent.

I'm gonna side with Dooley on this one. He got a text from Bryce Brown saying he couldn't make his meeting to ask out of his LOI. That, to me, speaks volumes of what kind of kid he was dealing with. Dooley knew he wasn't going to keep him on the team. But, he didn't want to get on his hands and knees to beg him either. Dooley stood firm on his stance and maybe what came out of that is Bryce Brown is a better person after learning from it. Who knows but I wish he didn't cave to the Deanthony arnett fiasco either. I liked that part about what Doooley did. Or at least how he sold it.

Dont blame him one bit. He set it up in high school where he worked his but off. Maybe the lesson should be dont recruit these 5 star RB's

If he was a good coach he would have tried to beg him to stay. Pride comes before the downfall. Maybe he would have his job still with BB. I remember DD saying he wouldn't recruit players already on campus. That was a mistake imo.

Listen folks, lane kiffin wasn't a coaching change he quit & left n middle of the night.. Can't even imagine how much hot air was blown up his recruits butts... As a fan I'm dissapointed alot of em didn't pan out. Bottom line ill still pull for em all cuz they were VOLS. even though I've been doubtful of brays abilities & heart I'm still behind him because he choose to go to Tennessee & stayed too. So my hats off to all the kids that choose & stay at Tennessee to play for our entertainment

To be fair to the OP, Bryce didn't just phone in 1 year. He pretty much phoned in 3 in a row. Was he even on the Kstate roster his last year?
