It's apparent after Bryce Brown's performance tonight...

Emmett, Barry, Herschel,...there is an endless list of NFL greats that didn't sell out on college. It's called integrity.

There is an even longer list of guys you've never heard of that never made it because of injuries they got playing for free. Marcus Latimore comes to mind, thought I hope I'm wrong.

I'm not sure you can say sandbagging his career to stay healthy was the right choice.

He was a 7th round pick which means he came close to not even making a roster. And instead of getting millions up front, he'll have to work for a bigger contract while taking hits from NFL players. What if he gets injured prior to a big contract? What if he never worked his way up the depth chart?

It might work out for BB but intentionally not playing college football and almost going undrafted is a stupid career move imo. And Chris Johnson for instance raised his stock through the combine. Even with Brown's tryouts and combine, teams obviously weren't very impressed. He's lucky to be in the NFL right now.

Where do I get one of these "handlers"? This one did a great job. I've been in school for 7 years AFTER college and will continue to make less than BB makes in a month.

You're also not at risk of having Chronic Concussion Syndrome, having a single hit end your career or your life, having your worth depend on how entertaining you are for the public to watch, etc. How much money these guys make used to irk me until I realized that they'd sold themselves as gladiators to be sent to the lions.

Like every star, he'll fall out of the limelight eventually as soon as he's no longer fun to watch. I just hope someone teaches him to hoard his money for when that time comes.

I wish him life-long success and the wisdom to manage it.

If he did decide this, who can blame him?

Running backs have a shelf life.

True, but as an undrafted rookie, he is now making the league minimum (I'm assuming...can't be much more, if at all), whereas he would've started out making 3-4 million a year. He'll eventually get a nice contract, provided he stays healthy, but I don't think the couple of years he took off in college will save his body enough to make up for the money he cost himself early in his career.

Reminds me some of Jamal Lewis. He definitely played not to get hurt his last year.

He also tore his acl the year before. Kinda' hard to blame a KID for worrying about injuring what is arguably his most important body part again right before he achieves his dream of playing in the NFL.

Comparing him to Bryce Brown is a disservice to Jamal Lewis. He's 5th on the all time UT rushing list and didn't even play 2 1/2 seasons.

At the direction of his handler he basically sandbagged his entire college career to avoid injury. How else do yo go from being the feature back at UT in year one and wind up being 4th string at KSU...then suddenly "Beast out" in the NFL? His "handler" robbed fans and Bryce himself of what could have been a stellar college career. One word "Greed"!!!

I'm guessing you think Arian Foster dogged his college career for the same reason? Seemed to work out for him...

His inability to break away from his Dad ruined his college career. Once Kiffin left, Bryce's Dad forced him back to Kansas St. Through the two years Bryce was "living in Kansas" he was constantly in Knoxville. Banging his dime piece (Blonde, hot, etc...) and walking around UT's library.

If this is due to some phantom "handler", then said "handler" did his job. He protected Bryce and got him into the NFL.

Eh...I have no problem with what he did but it is far from certain that it was the right thing to do. Check Bryce's contract versus Trent Richardson's contract.

Cut on Bryce Brown all ya want (I am sure he could care less), but the dirty little secret is that the UT athletic department failed this kid miserably. Promises made, promises broken as the machine continues to grind. He is having the last laugh.

The chaos of the Kiffin/Dooley fiasco would test any 18-year-old. Neither had his interests at heart so he took an unconventional route and it has paid off.

I hope BB he has a phenomonal career, makes millions, and hits 10,000 career yards.

Bryce was in a bad spot and his father did nothing to help.

Left up to Bryce, he would have stayed in Knoxville imo.

Kid loves Knoxville, I wish him nothing but success.

He was 4th string his last year in college at KSU with 3 carries for 16 yds. Obviously with what he did at UT and especially after last night, we know he's much better than that.

And who again is gonna put a gun to his head and make him run back those punts? He is in the NFL just like every other guy knowing full well the risks of being in a collision sport. IMHO, the quest for glory outweighs common sense in many of those young men, but that is age speaking, and not bulletproof youth. There are many folks out there that put themselves in harm's way each and every day for a hell of a lot less than many of these football players will, and I think you touched a bit on that point. I wish him well, and like you I hope he has the sense to realize that his shelf life is very short and will save his money. But I don;t worry about it if he doesn't.

God bless and watch out for our troops.

BB wouldn't want to work at bank in Knoxville for the rest of his life, IMO , well played, when he becomes a free agent , hell be a million air!

The next step is for Mr. Brown to secure a long term lucrative contract (he's only making about $400K per year). Does he have enough stance to request that? With another team of course.
