It's getting old

Just out of curiosity, why are a lot of people against Al Golden?

According to most this is the list of people that UT would go after and the order I would put them in:

1. Bob Stoops – As good as it gets, but no ties to UT, not going to leave OU to come here even if he feels unappreciated.
2. Jimbo Fisher – Great recruiter, great base to recruit. Has worked with Hart, but is UT a better situation than FSU, I don’t think so. He just got them turned around so I think he stays.
3. Gary Patterson – Has built a very good program, now part of Big12, not leaving to come here.
4. John Gruden – No college experience other than GA. Plus this is just not going to happen, he stays with ESPN until NFL gig opens that he likes for $8M to $10M year
5. Al Golden – I believe he would jump that sinking ship in South Fla., been a winner at every step, i believe recruiting is down at Miami because of uncertainty of NCAA sanctions.
6. Bobby Petrino – Winner, but also a liar that likes to jump ship after few years, believe he would take job but could you ever really trust him?
7. Charlie Strong – Has ties to Fla, but has only had one good year with Louisville in a mediocre conference, fading down the stretch. Move to ACC for 2014 may keep him there.
8. Mike Gundy – Don’t see him leaving his alma to come to UT.
9. John Chavis – Is a really good DC and TN guy, but is he HC material?
10. Kirby Smart – Not sure Hart wants to go the coord route, especially another Saban disciple.

Funny thing is that you could still see a Butch Jones or Art Briles get the job, but out of what I have heard I think Golden is the best of the most realistic choices out there.

I wish the UTAD had kept quiet about the hiring of Dooley for about another... 3 or so years!?

The AD that does something just to appease the fans is the same AD that will be without a job in a couple years.

Lets use this logic:

Fans like for UT to win football games.

If UT wins football games, fans are appeased.

Last AD hired Dooley.

Dooley did not win many football games.

Fans were not appeased.

Therefore, last AD should still have his job.

Well, that didn't work.

I hate that JG cancelled the meeting yesterday with Hart. Could mean the decision is made and no meeting necessary. Could mean they want things to chill due to the legalities of JG being part owner of the Browns and what that means for UT and the NCAA. In any sense he needs to move in or move on. KY has there guy, Arky and Auburn want sit.

IMO if it's not Gruden it's Fedora. He would be a good get but not a Homerun.

I would like to see a run at Patterson. Maybe they have but there is certainly no publicity if that's been the case.

I could handle Fedora as HC. I don't feel the same about Golden.

The average fan would not be happy with Fedora or Strong. If Hart hired Gruden just to make the fans happy, and he turned into the ego-maniac he was at Tampa and had too complex of an offense to translate to the college game, we would be out a crap load of money for a very long time.

And that last AD you talked about fired Fulmer and hired someone the fans thought was a god because he ran his mouth and acted like a good coach. There were many better options on the table, but the fans would be in awe over a staff of Monte Kiffin, Ed Orgeron, etc... How'd that work?

Because, by golly, he hasn't won a NC at Miami yet! And we're a top 5 program!

Much sarcasm

Good list. Now I'm depressed. Let's just close up shop I guess.

Al also jumps ship, or at least interviews for other jobs, every time he hits a little bump in the road.

If we offered him $18 million, I wonder if Derek Dooley would come back?

hearing other schools with job openings interviewing candidates. We get nothing. Not even a list of coaches we might be interested in hiring. This has been UT's MO for some time now. It would be nice if they would let the fans know that we are making progress in our search. But no, it's the same old thing. I know loose lips sinks ships, but this is ridiculous.

Yep, I have Jimmy Cheeks cellphone tapped and Dave Hart just called in with an update. He has it down to a top-5 list. In no particular order...he said that it depends on who will work the cheapest:

1. Al Golden
2. Willie Taggert
3. Phillip Fulmer
4. John L. Smith
5. Derek Dooley (apparently there is some push to rehire him?)

I kinda like ole John L! What 'bout u guys?

So are you agreeing or disagreeing that Butch Davis...who many wanted here when Fulmer was given the axe....should be considered if we are interviewing Mr. Golden?

Al Golden aka Mr. Ted Russell Ford Used Car Salesman

you mean Ted Hustle

Don't forget that Kiffin was also thinner and had better hair. These seem to be important to our fan base.

Other than that I agree. To think of the coaches we could've had if Hamilton was not the AD is sad.

How did Hart get the job as our AD if he is such an idiot? People in his position don't get there by being bad or even mediocre at their job. He did well at FSU and Ala before he got here.

Ashville i should wait to see who he hires before making a judgement on him. after hearing his comments on dooley either he was trying to be nice or is an idiot, i'm leaning toward idiot right now. if he honestly couldn't see dooley was horrible then he should not be allowed to pick the coach, end of story.

You are required to in the NFL. I do not know about the NCAA. There is a black coaches name associated with that rule in the NFL....can't recall the specifics.

I do think he would be nuts to not at least interview Charlie Strong.

Actually its "the Rooney Rule", named after the owner of the Steelers who pushed to have that put in place ..

So which would you rather have, Hart working behind the scenes or Hart updating his contact sheet each day and posting it for public view?

These coaches aren't contacted directly, you work through agents, etc. If Hart publicly comes out and says UT is going after Gruden what do you think will happen? I know, as UT fans many of you feel this is the best job in the world and how could any one turn it down.

So Hart comes out and says Gruden, the next thing you know UT is in a bidding war with ESPN, Philadelphia Eagles, and San Diego Chargers.

What do you think would happen if Hart says Stoops is the guy? Stoops' agent would create a bidding war with Oklahoma and UT most like resulting in raise for Stoops and UT still doesn't have a coach.

Hart's job isn't to make Internet posters happy and keep them informed.

Unfortunately, a lot of posters want to ignore good negotiating skills and want to be in on the decision making. Can you imagine any well managed organization would even give any thought to internet posters in making probably the most important decision the company has to make for the next 10 years? I think most of the posters complaining about the hiring process are young boys and girls who have no clue about managing an organization. Therefore I tend to dismiss most of what is written on this board as originating from uninformed or unintelligent posters.

Exactly. If you peel a couple of layers off this onion you'll most likely find what you described. Teenagers or guys in their early 20's with the patience and stability of uranium popping off.

I would say if he already has the next coach hired we will hear about it next week after the SEC Championship game, bad PR to announce before the game if it is a homerun hire, if Hart doesn't have a new coach already it will be after DEC 4th due to the College Hall of Fame induction as all the AD's and Coaches will be there and it will be easier to meet and talk to them. I am sure he is putting feelers out right now and getting feed back to real them in and the real talk will be at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

I tend to agree with you. However, the narcissistic meat-heads on here think UT should announce it before the SECCG to steal the thunder from UGA & Bama. Good grief!

I remember some school doing that a few years ago before the NC game and the media just ripped them. I would wait if it is a homerun hire due to more press coverage since we are just waiting until the bowl games after this weekend.
