Last year I posted this thread and it was stickied, but we did not live up to the hype. It is a new year and I have renewed hope. Here is why:

1) We had 99 problems last season, but Butch wasn't one

2) Mt McCullers is back

3) I am pulling my Three Wolves Moon shirt out of the closet. Please read the comments if you never have. HYSTERICAL!! Amazon.com: The Mountain Three Wolf Moon Short Sleeve Tee: Clothing

4) A return to the 4-3

5) The best Oline in the NCAA
6) We are 4 deep with some stud young QBs

Please add any additional points which may contribute to our success. I'll hang up and listen to your comments.

Not sure if serious.

Actually I usually agree with what you say, but there actually could be a chance here, if they had a stud running back and decent back up, you could really tell how good they are. I say all 5 could get drafted. I am not playing homer on that either.

The Orlando Sentinel sports dept. always rates the top 120 NCAA football teams this time of year. It's hard to believe that we're ranked #73. I'm saving the article hoping I can ram it down their throats at seasons ed.

Ok...now snap back to reality. I'm all about optimism, but we're still a couple of seasons away from a potentially "great" season. Sorry....but that's just reality. Just be patient. It'll happen! Go Vols!

Predicting a disastorous season or predicting an undefeated season is the same-a guess. Expecting a disaster is no fun. So I'm going with the belief that it's going to be an awesome season too.

1. We have a coach that can, well ...... Coach.
2. Our o-line should be spectacular which should allow us to run very well.
3. The good run game should alleviate the pressure from our inexperienced starting QB.
4. We will to better with time of possession.
5. Our defense will play less and be better rested.
6. Our defensive scheme complements our players and is already being grasped better than last years ever was which should produce a better defense.
7. College players still feed off of positive energy (more so than NFL) and we should have tons of that with CBJ.

All of this should lead to a 7-8 win season IMO.

My definition of "great season" has changed drastically over the past few years. Dooley left Butch with so little talent that if we win 6 games this year Jones will have more or less worked a miracle.

1 thing is for certain....the lack of talent in alot of games still kept us in alot of games during the Dooley era....but it never failed in those games to have the "Dooley Factor" show its ugly face and cost us a win in those tight games.

With that being said...I truly think we will not be out coached during a game by any SEC East staff and most of the SEC West staffs also. So it will come down to how much talent and fight we have in the soldiers we put out on the field in orange and white :good!: :salute:

So not sarcasm...

"If we win one of the hardest games on our schedule, we have a good shot at winning the others." Seems kind of obvious, doesn't it? How does that somehow translate to your schedule not being as hard as everyone is making it out to be?

Dude you are FOS. :bad: :nono:

Excellent analysis. Talent typically rules but no one should underestimate the attitude/vibe/ enthusiasm change that CBJ has brought. Huge upgrade from the dismal feeling around the program the last couple years.

So Dooley performed a "miracle" in '10 when he faced a schedule at least as difficult but with less talent/experience than this team has by a pretty wide margin?

Inheriting a OL with at least 4 guys who will be drafted next spring, two RB's with good numbers from last year and talent, 4 SEC quality QB talents, two DT's that NFL scouts are salivating over, the SEC's leading tackler at MLB, depth all over the DL.... isn't being left with "so little talent that if we win 6 games this year Jones will have more or less worked a miracle."

If Jones cannot win 7 with this roster then the chances are better than not that UT has hired an "average" coach who will never compete for championships in the SEC. I see signs that he may well be better than average and perhaps much better. But you need to be consistent. You threw stones at the notion that Dooley should get adequate time to prove himself as a coach after inheriting and absolute train wreck of a roster... but now want to call Jones a miracle worker if he wins on 6 with this roster?

Either you have let personal dislike of DD to cloud your judgment... or you are priming yourself to turn on Jones when things get difficult too.

This team has sufficient talent if Jones and staff can coach. There is a critical level of inexperience at WR and TE. But there is talent.

DB could be a problem but there is raw talent available.

They also have to avoid injuries in the secondary and at LB... at least until some of the new players can be brought along.

When Jones talks of having a very narrow window, IMO he is not talking about for winning 6 or even 7 games. I think he is talking about competing for the East.

And fwiw, this is by far and away the most talent Jones has had on one roster.

I agree with what you are saying to an extent. Where our opinions differ is Dooley had Bray when he came in. I don't care how much idiots on this board want to trash him, but if he wasn't here I have a feeling Dooley's first year would have been much much much worse.

What I expect to see is increased energy, enthusiasm, and maybe a few surprises. Whether that will translate into wins, I'm not so sure. When Butch arrived, the cupboard was darn near empty. The pipeline of recruits was nonexistent. Be patient. This is going to take awhile!

Also don't have a QB at this point, very average RBs, thin at linebacker, little to no depth everywhere and no kicking game. CBJ has more talent than ever before because he's now dealing with an SEC roster, not a Big East one. But this roster is poor in comparison to the other top SEC teams.

3 years from now, national title contention, next year we're lucky if we get six wins.

CBJ has been known to do great things.
