If Mike Leach is not at least offered this job IU's AD should be fired immediately. Hoke also. JMO

Any AD who offers Leach a job should be fired immediately. Nothing more idiotic than hiring that litigious loon.

Hat, I must ask, why no love for Leach?

He's a pretty good X's and O's coach. Sure he's a bit loony, but that comes with the territory of having him in the first place.

What's he ever done? Tech typically hammered a bunch of New Mexico States and Stephen. F. Austins, then played mediocre ball in the Big 12. Big deal.

Would be kinda ironic for IU to hire a ex Texas Tech coach after Knight went to TT..lol...IU football will never be a serouis power in the Big 10, espically now that the likes of Nebraska will be in their divison.

I think people are under the impression that he built some sort of empire at Texas Tech. He basically had 1 great year.

And found himself down by about 60 in the biggest game of his career.

They also seem to be under the impression that Tech was never bowl eligible before that.

Tech and Leach put up huge points on average and below average teams. Nothing about that plus his other "special qualties" should put him on a top 5 list of possiable coaches.

And that's why Minnesota, the Gophers, or IU would be a perfect fit. That would follow right along with their expectations. JMO of course...

Leach is a bird of a different fowl. A risky hire to some, and he most definitely doesn't fit the Southern/Midwestern mantra. If I were wanting to run Norm Chow's offense on steroids, I would go after Holgorsen or Briles.

lost in this is the fact that IU and minnesota would gladly settle for mediocre and regular bowl games.

In his defense, he accomplished more than any Tech coach since Cawthon. If you want to talk mediocre ball, talk about Spike Dykes. Not to mention a large amount of the offenses around the country implement half of the crap he ran at Iowa Wesleyan and Valdosta/Kentucky -- there is a reason Stoops hired him to come to Oklahoma. The dude is just a bird of a different fowl with a bizarre personality.

I can speak with some degree of expertise about IU's athletic department. They most certainly aren't going to have a piece of garbage like Leach represent them to go 6-6 and play in the Jolt Cola Who Gives A Damn Bowl. He can't come close to winning enough for the powers to be swayed to put up with his idiocy. If they hire him, they've been duped into thinking he can consistently win 9 games.

Spike Dykes won a conference title at Tech. How many of those has Leach got on his resume. Also, Tech played the Tennessees and Ohio States of the world in the nonconference portion of the season under Dykes. Who did Leach ever play, especially after he had been there long enough that they were paying the games scheduled at his request? He's Hal Mumme with serious mental issues.

Oh please, he shared it with four other teams. How many 9 and 10 win seasons did Dykes have? The Leach hate a great deal of the time is unwarranted. Wilson, Holgorsen, Brown, and Briles all run some version of his offense in the Big 12. Mumme was nothing but a figurehead for Franklin, Hatcher, and Leach. I'm not advocating the hiring of Leach, but he's not a complete loon.

And it's not as if he was in the WAC, he had respectable opponents at times.

I'd rather recruit the scraps left over in Texas than the scraps left over in the midwest. He was ok at Tech, but I don't think he could assemble the personnel to duplicate that success at Indiana.

and where are they going to find this magical coach who is both not a dbag and regurally takes them to bowl games? or at least why is this coach going to stay at indiana?
