Spike Dykes won a conference title at Tech. How many of those has Leach got on his resume. Also, Tech played the Tennessees and Ohio States of the world in the nonconference portion of the season under Dykes. Who did Leach ever play, especially after he had been there long enough that they were paying the games scheduled at his request? He's Hal Mumme with serious mental issues.

Let's see are you really going to say Dykes, 1994 co-champion big 12 title at 6-6, proves he is more successful? You really do not believe that garbage do you?

his record speaks for itself.
It sure does. It says "If your school's football aspirations are limited to beating the Louisiana directional teams and FCS schools, I'm your guy. I'll throw in idiotic press conferences about pirates for free. Of course, I'll sue your ass when you finally wisen up and fire me for being a fool."

I remember being one of those saying, "Leach would probably do well at Tennessee." Then, we began looking to hire, and I took a closer look at his tenure and became petrified of him dragging us to complete irrelevance in about 5 years.

Yeah, it's not like they ran up 60 a night against the New Mexico States, Sam Houston States, and Placido Domingo School Of Operas of the world, then got shut the Hell down when they played anyone of substance.

Yeah, a bunch of 8 win seasons and bids to the The Only People Watching Are Player's Parents And Degenerate Gamblers Bowl. Truly groundbreaking stuff.

But, but, but...Texas Tech was horrible before Leach. Leach IS Texas Tech :crazy:

He was only there four years? By the way, what was the score in the '08 OU game when they scored their last two touchdowns?

I bet they'll drop down to the FCS now that he's gone. No way they could ever qualify for a bowl again without Blackbeard at the helm. Oh, wait.

Highest graduation rate in the NCAA also. ESPN gave their boy Craig James an open mike to bash Leach didn't they!!!

So one game vs. a team that held Florida's high-powered offense in check for much of the game is a good example of how bad of a coach he is? Can you tell me the talent differential in Texas Tech and those teams? But good point

I fail to see where Florida fits into this debate.

Let's also look at the previous coaching records of those before Leach (Leach went 84-43).

Dykes: 54-47-1
McWilliams: 38-30
Moore: 16-37-2
Dockery: 15-16-2

It takes until Sloan, who only stayed at T-Tech for 3 years from 75-77 to see some similar results.

Considering he wanted to use one game in 08 vs. the runner up the national championship (loss to Florida) as a point where he was overrated, how is it not relevant?

I remember that year...tied with Baylor, Texas and Rice. RICE.

Just a curious question, but what was the level of competition that these four coaches that preceded Leach faced vs. the competition level that Leach faced?

Leach might be a moron, a weirdo, etc... but it amazes me how people can question him as a coach at a program that really did not have much consistent success until he got there for a long time.

Hell, even we at Baylor don't count that as a championship because it was shared with RICE.

Leach's 10 year average against OU: 22 points. Really huge stuff. That's how you lead the nation in scoring. Oh, wait. He lead the nation in scoring by playing a nonconference schedule that Carson Newman would be embarrassed to play.

Why all the hate for Mike Leach?? So he sucks as an announcer..Big deal..This is the guy who set 46 SEC,166 school, and 4 NCAA records while the OC at Ky in 98'-99'...He broke 150 NCAA Big 12 and school records while HC at TT...Tech had 10 straight winning seasons, went to 9 straight bowls, and finished in the top 25 5 times while he was at TT..

I'll never forget the 70 points he hung on Nebraska in '04, the most they've ever allowed in their 119 year history ...Or the comeback against Minn in the '06 Insight Bowl, trailing 38-7 in the 3rd Qtr and winning 44-41 in OT which, BTW, is the largest comeback in NCAA Div 1A Bowl history...

Leach got screwed by AD Gerald Myers and whatever anybody thinks, TT deserves what they get..Myers got pissed because Leach negotiated a 5 year deal after 2008 and suddenly TT wasn't gonna get all the success he brought without payin' the price...How convenient they fired him the day before he was due an $800,000 tenure bonus and a season before $1.7 million guaranteed salary was to be paid...Craig James and his son Adam are frauds...One a washed up never-was and the other a never-will-be...Their biggest claim to fame will ALWAYS be "the excuse Myers used to fire Mike Leach"....

As far as being litiginous, hell I would sue their azz too!! Leach is the all-time winningest football coach at TT (yes, more wins than Spike Dykes the "legend")and IMO a better coach than Dykes was..And he deserved better...As far as his pirate thing, well here's a quote from him that says a lot:

"Pirates function as a team. There were a lot of castes and classes in England at the time. But with pirates, it didn't matter if you were black, white, rich or poor. The object was to get a treasure. If the captain did a bad job, you could just overthrow him."

IMHO any AD who DOESN'T give him a shot should be fired............

You don't remember the games Leach played against Tennessee and Ohio State?
