IU Football Head Coach

and where are they going to find this magical coach who is both not a dbag and regurally takes them to bowl games?
Bill Mallory did it for years. Then, the IU brass listened to the idiots who think Indiana should be fighting Ohio State and Michigan for Big Ten supremacy. If Terry Hoeppner hadn't died, he'd have done the same thing Mallory usually did: Win seven or so games a year, make a bowl, graduate his players. That's all the vast majority of IU fans require in football. There are plenty of guys who can do that without making the university look like an employment agency for the criminally goofy. Brady Hoke would do that and a little more.

I can speak with some degree of expertise about IU's athletic department. They most certainly aren't going to have a piece of garbage like Leach represent them to go 6-6 and play in the Jolt Cola Who Gives A Damn Bowl. He can't come close to winning enough for the powers to be swayed to put up with his idiocy. If they hire him, they've been duped into thinking he can consistently win 9 games.

I can assure you you are wrong about part of that statement. The people with money in that program do the talking. Glass can be swayed.

lost in this is the fact that IU and minnesota would gladly settle for mediocre and regular bowl games.

That's the whole idea. The whole football budget is 6 million dollars, not alot of options.

Another funny tidbit about IU football fans. I live about 40 minutes from Bloomington and this area is loaded with IU and Purdue fans. A guy I work with and me was discussing our college teams and I asked him if he was going to the Bucket game against Purdue and he said "why bother? We suck!" he then went on to state that Purdue was missing Marve,Keith Smith and thier star RB....he said I can't even name one of our players...this coming from a IU football fan, he could name the Boilers but not his "own" team.

The people with money at IU don't like idiots. They actually value the university's image. That's why Kelvin Sampson got fired at midseason instead of IU stonewalling and keeping a team with Final Four talent on track.

Of course winning cures all, they didn't have many issues with Knight's image for a long time. :)

Yeah, it's terrible for a schools's image to have a program winning national titles without a hint of recruiting impropriety and almost every player graduating. Just awful.

Or throwing media fits, chairs or the occasional cussing out fans and hitting players...lol...Like I said, win and over look the minor "university image" things

Mike Leach won't be available, as he's been asked to man the booth back to back nights. FNIAmerica and MNF. Couldn't pass up a talent like ML.

Most people figure Knight gave the media exactly the treatment they deserved. I'm still looking for all these IU players that got "hit."

Basketball image is a totally different subject than the football image.

Any AD who offers Leach a job should be fired immediately. Nothing more idiotic than hiring that litigious loon.

Normally I would agree. I can't think of many coaches or people in athletics that are more overrated than Leach. I do believe, however, he would be good for Indiana. They have been a joke for as long as I remember. Maybe 2 awful things can mix together and form something not as bad.

i think people underestimate how critical the loss of Coach Hoep was.

Spike Dykes won a conference title at Tech. How many of those has Leach got on his resume. Also, Tech played the Tennessees and Ohio States of the world in the nonconference portion of the season under Dykes. Who did Leach ever play, especially after he had been there long enough that they were paying the games scheduled at his request? He's Hal Mumme with serious mental issues.

Did Leach kill your dog or something? Are you related to that punk Adam James? He may be kooky, but in my opinion that's good for football. I enjoy watching his offense. His defense always seemed to be a bit suspect, but his record speaks for itself. Plus he cares about the academics side of college football. I for one don't mind the guy and I hope he gets back into football soon.
