IU vs UT play off

Living in the Bloomington area, it's been exciting to see what Cignetti has done this year at IU.

That said, the more seasoned and knowledgeable fans know this is a unicorn. It's been the perfect storm of a completely cleaned house along with the softest schedule of any Big Ten team.

I'm honestly surprised IU threw that contract extension out there this year. I haven't looked at next year yet, but I'm saying Imdiana might be an 8 win team at best.

Every year it seems there's a Cinderella team getting attention. Few years back it was Cinn and another year it was TCU . This year it's Indiana Former Cinderella teams didn't do well in play offs in recent years
Exactly. There's always 1 team in the playoffs who hasn't really played anyone and skated by all season beating bad teams, and then they get in the playoffs and get smoked. IU is that team this year, the result you saw today will just happen again if they make it in. They should be out. Stop rewarding playing a cakewalk of a schedule.
Didn’t that Cincinnati team beat a Notre Dame team that finished the regular season 11-1 and was the #5 ranked team overall going into the bowl games?

Just in case some didn't read.

Look back at last year. FSU wasn't picked for the playoffs because they lost their QB. They were undefeated. The committee looked at them and said "they can't win" and left them out. Now you have Indiana. They just got smoked and shut down in their first REAL game. Don't you think the committee is looking at that and saying "they can't win"?

Next year their schedule’s:

Old Dominion
Kennesaw State
Indiana State

And in no particular order of date (except for the last one):

Illinois
Michigan State
UCLA
Wisconsin
at Iowa
at Maryland
at Oregon
at Penn State
at Purdue

If we win against Vandy, we’re in. IU getting in or not won’t change that. Tell your friend his team is terrible.
They aren't terrible. I'd love to settle it with them on the field.

I'm happy for them and the season that they have had. I don't think they have had much of a schedule though, but they are in the Big 12 or whatever conference it is this year. Not like BYU and that pansy ass schedule they play.

Yes. And ND is getting yet another free pass for losing to another terrible team at home.
Not entirely sure how that’s really relative to how good or bad 2021 Notre Dame was and any discussions about if that year’s Cincinnati team “hadn’t really played anyone and skated by all season beating bad teams”.

But ok.

They actually are not very good, played nobody. They have only had one game (win) against a team that is over .500. The other team they faced with a winning record is a semi good team and got beat the hell beat out of them.

I'm holding to what I said...8 wins at best.
More likely 6 or 7.
They'll lose to Penn St, Oregon, Iowa, and Illinois. Wisconsin and Maryland will be toss ups.

The interesting thing to see after all this is how the committee will handle the OOC schedule aspect with them.

In the past (I’m mainly thinking of 2014 Baylor, 2021 Oklahoma State, and another Baylor team), the team has generally heavily punished teams that didn’t play another Power conference team in their OOC schedule once they start to actually see losses (they’ve shown through those cases a tendency to drop them further than teams usually fall after losses, even if they played and beat a good conference team or 2).

However, in those cases, those teams also willingly made their schedules that way (as in they went “screw it, it’s tough enough for this school playing and winning in this conference - let alone making a good bowl game - let’s just go ahead and schedule an FCS team and 2 Group of 5 teams for the guaranteed wins).

I don’t know if this was an active decision on Indiana’s part or if an FBS game/series had to be canceled or rescheduled due to the Big 10 schedule changes (following the additions of Washington, Oregon, UCLA, and USC).

If it’s the latter of those two, I have to wonder if the committee will act as they previously have about/teams with that aspect or if they’re given a little bit of slack (especially how hard it would be to find a Power 4 conference team with an opening and schedule a game with them in less than a year…likely made more so by the massive shift in conference members in the Power 4 conferences over this last year).

The Cinderella teams like Cinn and even TCU have some success. Then they play an SEC team and the clock strikes midnight
BTW, Notre Dame is one of those teams that float thru a season often not playing anyone and then getting smoked when they play a real team.

Notre Dame at least has played four ranked teams including a win over A&M.

Indiana is NOT one of the best 12 teams in the country. The entire nation knew that and today proved that. Not sure what the committee will do, but I don’t think they belong.

I am a UT can they and thru. But born and raised in Indiana and am thrilled for IU and the season they have had. Im on their board and simply stating an objective view sharing that this BAD loss over OSU hurts theirs chances a lot.

One guy said “a one loss IU team getting left out over a two loss UT team is laughable.”

What would your response be? 🤔
They haven’t beat any top 25 teams
