That's what I meant to write, pal.
Funny how the guy praising WKU's basketball program over UT's on a UT forum is the guy questioning my fandom.
One more time since you're slow: I HAVE A DEGREE FROM BOTH SCHOOLS.
Bachelor's from UT
Master's from WKU
I had never heard of WKU until 8 years ago when my family moved to Bowling Green, KY from FL while I was attending UT (University of Tennessee, Knoxille, TN, Big Orange, Vols). That should cover all names so you know what school I went to FIRST.
On a side note, how did you like your time at WKU? I'm always thinking about what I want to do next. Having just graduated from UK with my bachelor's, I'm curious to look at all the schools around and even some out of state.
More wins, more tournament appearances, more E8, more F4, more AA. I'll always take more over less.
I'm done.
Loved it. Campus is gorgeous and Bowling Green is a great town. Small enough to have the college town feel but big enough that there's always something going on. I visited Murray as well and just couldn't see myself spending several years out there.
The last few years, the school and outside investors have undertaken a crazy development plan that has revamped downtown BG and connected it to campus. Every time I go back, there's a new building, restaurant, dorm etc. It's amazing the transformarion the school and town have undergone in the 8.5 years I've been connected to BG. There truly isn't many places I'd rather live than there. I'm trying so hard to get my wife to move back; the Nashville scene just ain't for me and I live 30 miles away haha.
****ty conferences... easy automatic bids... vacated wins... greatest player ever ruled to have been ineligible
Has there ever been a single national champion come out of the conference that BG was playing in? Serious question. You could compare results versus common opponents (like KY) but there isn't one with very many games played.
WKU has nice stats in the NCAAT, but they didn't have to do much to get in. Take KY out of the SEC and TN would probably have as many appearances as KY has. SEC runners up weren't invited until theid/late 1970s.
No there hasn't been. Only 35 teams have won a NC, out of 320 or so.
Weak conference is a weak argument, the talent level is all relative. It's no easier or harder for WKU to win the OVC/Sun Belt/CUSA than it is for UT to win the SEC. I wasn't around in the 40's-60's when WKU was the most dominant so I have no idea how they would've stacked up against up "power teams". However, theybeat their fair share of power teams in that era.
Take up your disagreement with the myriad of publications/outlets who rank them as a top 30 program all time. I didn't do the rankings.
I did see a list of top 75 that ranked TN around 65 and the Hilltoppers at 24. Most youngsters can't fathom that the world was ever much different than it is today. No there hasn't been. Only 35 teams have won a NC, out of 320 or so.

The myriad is simply looking at NCAAT appearances. It's not a weak argument that being the big fish in weak conferences gets those invitations. When you and your buddy are being chased by a bear, you don't need to be faster than the bear. Just be faster than your buddy. TN historically didn't run faster than KY.
