The experienced runner thing is kinda wild in this era. Especially when u consider how the NFL is looking at their mileage. The RB position with the fastest transition on every level. Running the football is all instinct and vision. You either have it or you dont. What keeps them off the field is usually pass protection. We could see that Sampson was a big time RB from day 1, but he had to learn how to block blitzing SEC LB's. If Cam and Keith who are much bigger backs, can pass protect, their natural abilities should take over when it's time to run. We'll learn alot in the bowl game against a stout defense.I mean, Small isn't exactly bad and we need other experienced runners besides Sampson.
I hope Seldon and Co step up. Would be cool. The experienced runner thing is kinda wild in this era. Especially when u consider how the NFL is looking at their mileage. So, the coaches were hiding Sampson for a big surprise reveal at a hugely impactful contest like the Citrus Bowl??Sampson will be glad to get the ball and is a much better runner. Best of luck to Small.
There are things other than running the ball that a RB has to do and some that cant get that down dont get as many snaps. I think Sampson was still learning to pick up blitzes. So, the coaches were hiding Sampson for a big surprise reveal at a hugely impactful contest like the Citrus Bowl??
I’ve heard how great all the backups are all day today and how UT is going to win big. So, since the team is so great and better than Iowa, what’s the fallout if UT loses? Nothing is not an acceptable answer.
Agree. Sampson certainly showed skill for running the ball and finding the end zone. But, since we leave RBs in the game for extended series rather than subbing in and out, they have to be able to do it all. There are things other than running the ball that a RB has to do and some that cant get that down dont get as many snaps. This brings up three questions - Who decides on real VFL status? what does it take to qualify? Is it really forever?Let me clarify - you can personally choose to not recognize him, but that doesn’t have anything to do with his ‘ status’ at the university as a VFL…. All good
His Govt Name is Preston. So believe it or not an upgrade? Is his name really Chubba?

Fun fact about Nebraska starting QB Chubba Purdy: His given name is Preston, but “Chubba” caught on as a nickname from his dad when he reached 38 pounds as a 1-year-old.

Recruit signs LOI, shows up, rides the bench and transfers at the end of year 1. VFL?
