Jacques Smith Out

..... about being out, and possibly not playing for 4-6 weeks.

I suspect you have NO CLUE as to the extent of the injury. I venture to guess the medical folks do. I'll trust and go with their judgment.

He had surgery- that should be enough to tell you the injury was fairly serious. I don't care if you played HS ball, or have other expertise on Smith's specific injury, don't blindly slam a player for his treatment for an injury.

Get real..... don't you think if he could play, he would?

My son injured his thumb in a FB game. Though he was able to finish the game, his injury required surgery. He not only had pins installed in his hand, but he also had a contraption extending from inside his hand to the exterior to 'hold things in place.' On the bright side, with a 4-6 week projected absence, he was back in the game 3 weeks later. I'm not suggesting this is what J. Smith has, as none of us know.

Regardless, how about all you gladiator-in-your-own-mind types give it rest, as you don't know jack.

Exactly. The problem with 'oh it's just a thumb or a finger' is that there are more bones, tendons, and nerves in the hands and feet than anywhere else in the body. You mess a thumb surgery, recovery or even just get into a freak accident that causes damage to the area (dog bite, construction injury, etc.) and you risk paralyzing your entire hand for life.

So hellz yes, you better trust the docs on this because you can easily lose your ability to do a thing with your hand if you don't.

i agree, but it will be hard to get him in those games, seeing as he has missed so much practice and i don't know what all he will be doing as far as staying in game shape either, hopefully he will be ready to play in the WKU game

You may be right ... but I am picturing a bandaged/casted immobilized thumb, and thinking that he can still run, ride stationary bike, do pushups, even use a weights machine for curls, bench press, etc.

Thankfully he is not a wide receiver, a quarterback or even a running back.

I think our medical/training staff will optimize what he CAN still do.

It's "average" about 5 weeks for bones to heal especially given that he had surgery. He'll probably be healed by Sept 12th but whether or not he's cleared to play is another story. We'll be lucky to get him for the Oregon game(9/14)

Another over-hyped talent that will leave the Hill with barely a whimper on the field ever.

But they will talk for years after of how he looked like "a beast".

You have no clue what you're talking about. Just wait til the facts come out before you make a jackwagon out of yourself.

This, and while you are waiting, chug on over to mamby pamby land where, MAYBE, we can find some self confidence for you. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

Hasn't Smith pretty much been a bust? Looks like a player but isn't--doesn't seem to have any instincts--slow getting to the ball. Maybe this is a chance to find somebody else who can play.

The majority of that time was played under Doofus. I am trying not to be over optimistic about this season, but I believe this season will be a stark contrast to last season.

Jacques has heart. That much has been evident since Butch got here. Once he is back, the last thing we will call him is a bust.

A lot of people thought he was going to turn out like Hightower coming out of HS...

Pitiful Post. Pitiful excuse for a "fan". :censored:

If you think Smith has played even to a small fraction of his hype, tell me how. I have never seen it.

As for a pitiful fan; you seem to fall in that category when you can't even judge your team's abilities in a somewhat honest manner. Sure we want all UT players to do well and the team too. Frankly I don't think Smith has earned the starting spot over some others on this team. There is always an excuse with him. Wish there wasn't, but he never shows up on the field. I say it's time to move on and give the younger ones some PT to make them better. I am betting Smith realizes this too or he would have left for the NFL with the exodus last year. Except he knows he is no where near NFL caliber. Or even SEC caliber. Sorry but true.

I would say that Smith did okay , considering he was DE playing LB . The 3 - 4 asks linemen to not pressure but to tie up blockers. The run 'fits' of the defense were not the issue ...it was pass rush and coverage . Main issue was that the front and rear of the defense were disconnected . In the Wilcox system , it was contain all the way...even on the edge. So when did you see Smith rush the passer? If you have watched the same team that the rest of us has ...you have not.
I would keep an open mind on Smith and the rest of the defense that failed in a system that was all but designed to fail. The 43 has built in gap control and is not as specialized as the 34 . It has far fewer keys. It can be an aggressive D where athletes can be athletes.

So the excuse now is that it was all Sal Sunseri and Wilcox's fault and he is just a product of the systems?? Well I don't buy it. I don't see the physical play at any position. He gets dominated by bigger OL and he gets out quickened by RB when trying to cover them. He is the classic "tweener" that fits no where. So far, he is a bust and they should play the yonuger ones behind him.

1982alum:
I stand by my assessment; your posts bring nothing but negative perceptions for a player that is still giving his all for TN.
We have seen nothing to suggest that coach Jones wont play the best players.
He has seen enough of #55 to decide to take him to SEC Media days. That in and of itself tells me a lot about what #55 has shown he means to this team, and program.
SO give it a rest. Your attacks on #55 are attacks on our coaches. But I guess they are "busts" too?!?!?!

And I stand by my posts. You can sunshine pump all you want on Smith but at the end of the day, the team will be a product of their combined effort and execution. Nothing negative except the truth. If you can handle the truth.

Is it all Sabans fault that Bamas defense is so good? Coaching affects play and players.

Maybe you should stick to ping pong. He was great in his run fits .

He gets dominated by bigger OL and he gets out quickened by RB when trying to cover them.

So you are dogging a defensive end, playing backer ..that cant 'cover' a running back . Thank goodness the new coaches have placed him into his natural position.

He is the classic "tweener" that fits no where. So far, he is a bust and they should play the yonuger ones behind him.

Defense is all about form and function. Last season had no form , nor function. Practically every defender on the field looked horrible. Again with the correlation...Sunseri comes in , UTs defense falls to the worst it has been in nearly 100 years. The players musta became more became more stupid with his arrival .

I think all of the players will look much better in this defense.
