Jacques Smith Out

Hmmm no not at all just calling it how I see it and for 25 I think I'm in pretty good shape, and if it's just a thumb and u don't play because of it and ur a de/Leo yes ur a pussy!!!!!!

You are a tool and an idiot. I broke my thumb last year and had to have surgery to reattach the ligament to the bone. If he had surgery it means there are some ligament issues. The pain isn't the problem. It's the rehabilitation it takes to get your thumb working again. He will be at 80% in 4 weeks and 95% in 6 (only 95% because it will never be 100% again).

Hang in there Jacques!

As long as they're back and ready for the gauntlet we go through in October, I guess...

Hopefully he will be back for at least some of the WKU game so he will be ready for Oregon.

Your an idiot. Your thumb is 60% of the function of your hand. He had to have surgery which means he most surely has pins in place to hold the bone. A thumb fracture is much more serious than your average fractured hand or finger. His thumb is likely fixed in a extended position, leaving it away from the hand and very prone to damage even if taped and padded or casted.

Jack Youngblood played the entire '79 NFL play-offs, including the SuperBowl, with a broken leg. Hell, he even played in the ProBowl a week after the SuperBowl. Same position as Jacques, DE, and Jacques can't play with a broken thumb? Players nowadays are soft.

FTR, Youngblood is one of the very few Gators alum I admire. Guy had no quit in him. Very balls to the wall type of player.

medical staff will make the decision when and if he can practice or play, or any injured player. Always medical call before coach or player can decide when one can participate

He had a fracture of a none weight bearing bone. I have seen people walking around with fibula fracture for 2 to 3 weeks and only went to the ER because it wasn't getting better. You are comparing apples to oranges. A thumb fracture can be a serious injury that can lead to permanent disability in hand function.

come on Jacques.man up and do a Ronnie Lott

(He had the tip of his left pinky finger amputated after the 1985 season when it was crushed by tackling running back Timmy Newsome, and a bone graft surgery wouldn't have him ready in time for the 1986 season )

just kidding, hopefully it is a fast recovery for him

Rod Wilkes would have just ripped his whole arm off and used it as a club for the entire season.

Hope Smith heals quick and Vereen.is ok but it looks like Corey Miller,.Walls, and Lewis will have to.step up

If Jaques is rested for the Austin Peay game... it doesn't matter... we don't need him as much in that game .... If it means that he is rested and fully prepared for the Oregon /Florida game...
Fine by me ...

JMO though

i agree, but it will be hard to get him in those games, seeing as he has missed so much practice and i don't know what all he will be doing as far as staying in game shape either, hopefully he will be ready to play in the WKU game

..... about being out, and possibly not playing for 4-6 weeks.

I suspect you have NO CLUE as to the extent of the injury. I venture to guess the medical folks do. I'll trust and go with their judgment.

He had surgery- that should be enough to tell you the injury was fairly serious. I don't care if you played HS ball, or have other expertise on Smith's specific injury, don't blindly slam a player for his treatment for an injury.

Get real..... don't you think if he could play, he would?

My son injured his thumb in a FB game. Though he was able to finish the game, his injury required surgery. He not only had pins installed in his hand, but he also had a contraption extending from inside his hand to the exterior to 'hold things in place.' On the bright side, with a 4-6 week projected absence, he was back in the game 3 weeks later. I'm not suggesting this is what J. Smith has, as none of us know.

Regardless, how about all you gladiator-in-your-own-mind types give it rest, as you don't know jack.

Usually its not the players call. Its the medical staffs call. Coaches may have some input as to whether they want him to try to play with it or not. Playing one handed is almost impossible for a DE. I wonder how many who are screaming "tape it up and play" blew a horn in the band?
