Jalen Hurd potential

Live 1 mile from his HS. Watched him for 3 years. I'm gonna get killed but here goes;
Jalen has got to recover from a MAJOR shoulder injury first. He hasn't lifted weights in a long time, his weight is down below 200. His injury has been downplayed greatly.
Now as far as running styles go, everyone has their own opinion, but Ive never considered him a bruising or punishing style of back. he is more of a sliding style that uses his speed once he sees a crease or lane open, but he does not
".run over" people.
Last but not least, he has a little maturing to do. After his injury this year he came to only a few of his teams games, and he needs to understand how much he will be in the limelight and watched at "all" times..
If he can recover physically, and mature some, the sky is the limit

This is complete unsubstantiated bull$hit.

Like I stated, I knew was going to get killed.
1> If it was just Routine Labrum, then no, it would not be major. But this injury was understated. Loosing a chunk of bone is Major. Shoulder recovery is harder than most all joint repair because that joint moves in more directions than the knee, elbow, ankle, etc.
2. I said everyone had their opinions on running styles, and I just stated mine. Those who see him as a bruising punishing Eddie George type of running back, I just don't see it yet. Maybe he will
3. Im going by what I saw a week ago, He has lost a lot of weight and upper body bulk.
4. I know more than Im going to say on here about why he missed some games his team played, Im not hating on him, just stating the obvious. He was not there.
% I don't hate Jalen at all, I did a jig when he committed. Dooley had it so screwed up the Kid was headed to OSU or Bammer before Butch made him the first recruit he saw last year on day 1.
As for maturing, it means understanding that he has to hold himself accountable at ALL times. No keg party pics etc...

I would also like to add that Jalen is the most exciting HS player I have seen in the last 35 years in the State of Tennessee

Most hs stars are "prima donnas". I hear he is a bit arrogant but I like that...time to bring some arrogance back to the program. Beech plays in a weak district but remember they were state 6A champs with him in 2012...and went 6-4 this year without him...looking forward to what this kid can do for the program.

He played in 5A . I believe they are in the same division as Josh Malone's team and played Vic Wharton and Gaulden's team. I don't know where this he doesn't play against good teams comes from.

Haters gonna hate. He's to big or he's to small. Somebody has to say their opinion. They will all be on the Hurd bandwagon soon. I believe he will be Adrian Peterson in the SEC.

I think Mr. Fournette is already garnering the comparisons with AP. JH will just have to carve out his own niche...:good!:

Thats exactly who he reminds me of. He runs alot like Adrian Peterson. If I remember right he passed on quite a few schools because they wanted him to play LB. Now look how good his carrier ended up being

If he has strong legs and a strong upper body to match height should not be a problem in college ball. Just picture a defense end at 6'-3'" with 4.4 speed nocking down a ball and taking it to the end zone. If he has the strength alone with speed we will only see him terrorizing defense for 3 years. I remember when the Dolphins had Larry Zonka. He was tall, strong and fast for his size. He would literally run down the field nocking LB over and carrying DB on his back. You would actually see defense backs try to get out of his way. He was the toughest running back I have ever seen. I remember in the old days when backs had one single bar on their helmet. He broke his nose in the first quarter and continued to mow defenders down the rest of the game. He lives in the Alaskan wilderness today. I guess my point is if this kid is as big, strong and fast as every is saying his height should not be an issue.

Ok, I wasn't going to say anything, but I have to. The poster that states he lives a mile from the school is a fraud (doesn't know what he is talking about). My son plays for Beech. Here's the hard truth. Before the injury against station camp everybody was on the Hurd bandwagon. Since the injury, there have been alot of haters. The fact is, Jalen Hurd is the best high school back that Ive ever seen in the state of TN. This is an opinion that is shared by many of the very best players to come through middle TN over the past 40 yrs. Yes, I said past 40. Some of whom were doubters, turned fans after going to see him play in person. And to the OP, his speed is legit. Its not from high school coaches infating stats to boost a kid.

So let me get this straight, first you made a definitive statement that jalen was not lifting and was below 200 pounds . Then when called out on it, you said you based that comment off "seeing him".
Don't come on here making false statements about the kid based off of "seeing him". Stick to posting your opinion and stop trying to look like you have some sort of inside knowledge.

Does he having maturing to do? I'm sure he does, he's a 17 year old kid, they all do. I work with college kids and the 22-24 year old ones still need to mature.

As for him running over people, I believe at the Nike camp in Columbus, he ran over a linebacker in a drill and all the other LBs said they couldn't believe someone his size was a RB. Not worried about this or his speed.

Yes, he's had some injuries that are concerning, but he'll be with a great athletic training staff and will also pack that muscle weight back on when he gets in the TN weight training program.

I find it hard to believe that you have all of that info just from living a mile a way from Beech and watching him play for his three years.

1.) His shoulder injury is actually recovering well and he is lifting though not quite at the level of pre-injury yet. Sidenote: He also hasn't dropped below 200lbs, a shoulder injury would not warrant a drop of around 30-40lbs not even in the worst of situations.

2.) When he has needed to run over someone he has. I've seen every run Jalen's had in the past three years and when it was necessary he got it done. Otherwise it would just be a player risking his body for know reason.

3.) The lack of attendance of his high school games this year bothered me a bit, but I attribute that to the fact that over this past year he has seemingly formed a tighter bond with his future teammates and has spent time attending their games and traveling to Knoxville on the weekends to recruit for UT.

All in all I feel there is little to be worried about. The only thing I worry about is the risk of him hurting his shoulder again, though after the extensive precautions they have taken with him this year I feel like the chances are slim.

Exactly!! He missed those games to come recruit for UT!! Everyone that is questioning his attendance for his team games need to go look thru the recruiting tweets and his thread to see for themselves.. I appreatiate him giving up a lot of time to put in work on that front. Very unselfish if u ask me.

Everybody on VN is blowing this kid to be the savior. It woukd be nice if he is the next great one but reality is for TN not to be such! Look at Riggs and/or Houston, Davis, Tinsley etc..

This is, apparently, where the prblem lies. I personally dgas where he was on Friday night and I can honestly say that I feel the same about his drinking habits. Hopefully hes not driving, but otherwise dont care.

The video has already been posted in this thread but I'll say it anyway. The 4.37 40 time is legit. He had it clocked at camp not with a high school coach and a crappy stop watch method.

Hang on there pilgrim. I lived in Philadelphia,MS and have met Marcus Dupree...he was older then but still...this guy has a physical presence that hasn't been seen in football in a rb for the last 30 years. He autographed a pic from the 1980 Fiesta Bowl and I can tell you from a physical standpoint Jalen won't get there...oh and btw I know several of Peyton's kin from Philly...all top notch people.

An for the record. He played in 5A against josh Malone, gaulden, Wharton, and many others... He didn't play in 6A. Whitehaven (Memphis) beat maryville last year in the 6a championship.

No disrespect, but first off, you're an idiot....

1) Jalen Hurd is (as of yesterday) 223 lbs. He has lost a little weight and size, but not much.

2) Hurd did whatever he had to do to get yards. Whether that was outrun you or run you over, he got what he needed to win ball games. Look at the entire offensive stats last year and you'll soon realize that he had 90% of those. So, he carried this team on his back - literally - went undefeated and got them a state championship.

3) Hurds family MADE HIM stay at home for a couple of weeks after he had surgery. They didn't want him out on the sidelines freshly out of surgery, still on medication, etc.

People thought Jalen turned his back on his team. If anyone thinks that, then you're truly an effin idiot. Jalen had this surgery as it was best for his future. There was NOTHING left on the high school level that he had to prove. His ONLY GOAL was to be well for UT in the Spring. Beech students, community and ESPECIALLY the coaches were butthurt because of it. They tried to treat him like crap because of it too.

Whoever you are, you must have gotten your sweet little feelings hurt this year too because Beech turned into a very sub par team without him on the field. GET OVER IT!

I mean really... How far does a kids arm have to be ripped out its socket before it's ok to not play high school football?

This. Dupree benched 405 lbs for 10 at the age of 18. He's one of the greatest genetic freak athletes ever.

Anyone comparing an 18 yr old kid who has never taken a snap at the college level to some of the greatest running backs in the history of football are setting the kid up for failure.

Likely, it will be some of you morons who turn on him first if he doesn't meet "your expectations"
