Jalen Hurd reminds me of

............the 2 frosh. at Bama and UGA. The question I have is this. Does a back like him fit into the new offense we will run?

You mean the type of offense that all of the schools high on his list are running? Yes.

Do people not realize that the NFL is now importing spread principles into their schemes? I don't know if you all just miss the days of the power I, or pro-set, but they are pretty much gone from football. Time to get with the times, and stop acting like the Butch Jones'es of the world are different. They aren't, you are.

He will be a defensive end or tight end when its all said and done IMO. No way you can run that upright in the SEC and survive unless you have 4.3 speed like DMac did.

If I remember right Jamal Lewis ran upright like that and he did pretty good.

According to earlier reports, he does...he's packed on weight since then, but I remember the upright running style being a complaint about one Adrian Peterson, and I seem to recall him working out pretty well...

"Durability. It is the biggest question some talent evaluators have concerning a big back reminiscent of Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson. Peterson runs so upright and hard that 'he might make himself more of a target even to linebackers who will wind up doing people's taxes for a living,' NFLDraftScout.com senior analyst Rob Rang says.

Rang says some teams will red-flag Peterson.

'The big knock on him is the durability issue," Minnesota Vikings vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman says. "Because he's a taller back; because he has an upright running style; because he runs 1,000 miles an hour. Is he going to hold up from a durability standpoint?'"

-USA Today, 4/20/2007

Every tall back and upright runner deals with the same questions, but eventually most end up figuring it all out. The coaches will have him running with a lower pad level in no time.

Reminds me of Eddie George. 6'2" He did pretty well.

is hurd officially 6'3'' or is that just roster size? just wondering cause how many times is a kid listed that big and end up measuring 6'1''. just curious if this is all just self reported or has he measured in that large at a camp or event.

He attended Alabama's camp and he was still reported at 6'3" and 210 pounds afterwards, and that was last summer. It seems likely that the height is accurate or close to it.

They said the same thing about Adrian Peterson.

Adrian Peterson had the 4.3 speed so thats a bad example. He is also a freak of nature of which we havent seen since maybe Jim Brown or Bo Jackson.

Dont get me wrong, the bulk of my opinion is based on the fact that Hurd may keep growing, not so much the running style - that can be coached. He is an outright beast which means he will be a stud at whatever position he plays.

Eddie George in build and some in style, but not in speed, quickness and elusiveness. George ran around a 4.7 most of his days on the field. Eric Dickerson speed and sytle - but it apears that he will be even stronger than ED.

He is Jalen Hurd - one of a kind and all Vol. He could set the new gold standard for UT RB's.

In order to win in the SEC it is an absolute necessity you have a top shelf running back and quarterback in the offensive backfield. See Alabama and Georgia. You also recruit this type of talent to your system. We now have a top shelf running back that has eluded us for awhile and we already have a couple of top shelf qb's here already. The time is now for Coach Jones to show the SEC he can bang heads with the best of them.

Seriously...this kid would fit in any offensive coordinator's offense! He's a baller.....u should be PUMPED... instead of questioning if he'll fit into our offense! Go Vols!

Is it just me, or does he run like CP?

It's just you. CP runs like a piece of knitting yarn being wind blown. You don't know what direction he's going to flap in with his very next step. Jalen runs more like Eric Dickerson. CP = the shortest distance is the longest route you can take. JH = the shortest distance is a straight line even if you have to take a detour.
