Jalen Tabor has an opinion

I don't disagree. Yes, they all get a full ride to get their degree, but they're also playing a sport proven to destroy their brains. Is the scholarship really a fair level of compensation? I hardly believe so.

They could easily play golf and pay for their school!

They aren't being forced to play...

And let's be real..how much is there really to destroy?

The kid apologized for the slavery remark. The overall point got lost which is unfortunate. A lot of people are getting rich off of college football. The non profit side of this is a complete joke.

His biggest beef should be with tile IX more than the schools. all he sees is the money coming in for football. not what it has to cover at the university itself

Let these kids that think they are worth millions go straight to the NFL then. They will flame out in the first or second year, if they make it that far, and have no college to fall back on.

The one percent of the best players make it in the NFL. Most college players are getting food, room, health care and an education with tutors for their services. I think it's a fair trade.

We?

That doesnt make his comments any less stupid regardless.

Sorry, MOST folks do or say something they might regret around that age, must be nice to be perfect. As I said, the comment was unfortunate in that it overshadowed his real point. He apologized as well.

Had he said something along the lines of "A scholarship is great, the chance to earn a degree that will serve me well in life is worth a great deal. However, there are a lot of folks becoming millionaires working for non profit organizations and the SEC in particular is seeing growth from television deals at a rate of 65%. Everyone is getting a raise but labor."

Maybe people would have been able to have a discussion, but...

That happens in corporate America. That labor, also doesn't receive a full scholarship during their education either. Nor is he hampered by low wages to get said education.

I am not going to chime in to discuss Tabor's comments as everyone else has. But I wonder what the true value of a year's worth of being in a football program like UT. You have to consider tuition, room and board, meals, stipend, clothes, state of the art weight room, practice facility, rehab rooms, trainers, nutritionists and nutrition bar, lounges, academic centers, and academic support staff. And I am not suggesting that they don't deserve it because they do. Just curious of the overall value.

And throw in the full time trainer, dietitians, etc....

Absolutely. They're certainly not doing this for free.

Yes, in CORPORATE America, where the whole point is to make as much money as possible.

If you're saying that COLLEGE athletics are acting like corporate America while masquerading as a non-profit I guess we agree.

I'm all about making the NCAA pay up, but calling it slavery is a shaq-sized stretch.

If athletes are forced to be paid do you support them having to pay their way for everything or receive all those benefits that for free on top?

Perfect has nothing to do with stupid and completely idiotic regardless of if he has a decent point.

He went dumbazz and extremely insensitive and it got lost because of it.

As for apologizing, most do when their feet are held to the fire for being that dumb. Had he not got ripped for it (and rightfully so) I dont think he gives the effort.

Its not even a stretch.

Its a complete slap in the face to any and all that actually dealt with the atrocity of being a slave.
