Jarret Guarantano better than most vol fans think

Let me start by saying that I appreciate that this kids wanted to play for the Vols. However, it is becoming more and more clear that he is not the QB to lead this team out of our troubles. Watching him all last year and the two games this season, it is clear that he has not taken the necessary steps to excel at this level. Last week he was horrible and tonight has not been any better. He has over thrown a couple of players, an intentional grounding, multiple passes where the receiver bailed him out from an interception. He has on at least two occasions gotten the ball to the open receiver late, both if completed on time would have been a TD. It is time to move in from this train wreck.

He’s just not good. Nothing wrong with saying it. He’s tough, but he sucks as a QB.

Ok, so this is yet another year of trying to develop and evolve. It is what it is. I am really excited about how our true freshmen are playing. The bad news is we won't get anyone to join them if we keep losing like this. At this point, since we are losing with a junior QB, we might as well start playing somebody else at QB. I mean it can't be worse. I think the team has lost confidence in JG and now I think the coaches have to. Time to move on. Also, pick a starting five OL and allow them to gel, even during the bad times. The only remedy for our DL is recruiting. The Michigan transfer isn't panning out and we have no other talent. JG is bad, but our defense is worse. When you can't even line up correctly, you have issues. Let the freshmen play and cede the year to development. That is all we can do at this point.

I know the JG bashers hate facts.
Here is a fact for you. We are 0-2 with JG this year after 2 games. We were 5-7 with JG last year and we were 4-8 with JG the year before that. Blame it on whatever you want but the fact remains we have not improved with JG at QB. I am not saying he is a bad kid. I am simply saying he is a bad QB.

Bull crap. He had time tonight and is late in every throw. He can’t read a defense. He locks onto his WRs. He gets hit most of the time because he is about 3 seconds slow on everything he does. Threw a crap INT and his first TD should’ve been intercepted. He is absolutely awful to have been in this program as long as he has.

There was a JG throw in the 3rd quarter of last week's game that I could of thrown better ... seriously. I replayed it for my wife and she was appalled

Said it two years ago.......average on his best day. Need a QB who is able to make up for other shortcomings of this team. BYU qb would make our team better than what we have with G

Somehow, with a supposed top SEC OC and a Heisman trophy winning QB coach, Guarantano has badly regressed. His decision-making is ish. He’s all of a sudden constantly putting the football in jeopardy.

It’s time to get Maurer ready. It was clear that our offensive play calling dictated being predictable in the run game late because we couldn’t trust a Junior QB/3 year starter. Unacceptable. Time to move on.

Shrout is a turnover waiting to happen if practice is any indication of how he would play. Maurer is inconsistent, but he's probably the guy you go with. Hate it for JG. He's got all the physical talent needed and I have defended him because of the poor protection last season...but he's had plenty of time to throw this season and isn't getting it done. I'm not going to bash the kid. The entire situation sucks for everyone.

But we don’t know of anything you said is true. The haven’t gotten a chance to take any meaningful snaps. All we know is that jg is terrible and we have noting meaningful left to play for this year. It’s the worst ut football has ever been. So what in the hell do we have to lose?

He has the yips now and once you get that in your blood it's over. He might have been good if he got a fighting chance as a freshman but his confidence is shot from all the blows he took.

JG had time tonight and still could not get it done. He got bailed out at least twice by JJ. Good kid, not an SEC QB
I agree 100 percent. He had plenty of time tonight to throw and missed at least two touchdowns by holding on to the ball. He is not an sec quarterback, and yes give JJ ALL of the credit for the two touchdowns

For enduring the hits and criticism that comes with managing a team with a woeful Offensive line. You may find more success in the future with a line that can give you time to make reads.

But that ain’t us. And that ain’t you. And that ain’t now.

JT Shroud, come on down.
JT Shroud sucks too. Maurer or bust.. only kid who has that cockiness and attitude you need it a QB... Oh bad he looked the best in the spring.

He spends more time focusing on not making a mistake versus making a play. I think Fulmer used to do that in his day.

He is tough as nails and a very good kid. He has taken way to many massive shots. He needs a breather and a reset for a couple of games.

We are literally just 2 games into the season. Cheerleaders are on the sideline. Players play the game. If you need a few games off after 2 games into the season you have no business playing.

I supported J G ever since we signed him. I thought he would develop into a very good SEC QB. However, it appears tha he has regressed from his play from his play last year. Even through we do not have a QB on the team that has taken a college football snap, I feel we have to get some playing from our other scholarship QBs. If we don,t, we will start play next year with VERY inexperienced QBs unless we can get a good graduate transfer. Need to bite the bullet and play the better athletes and win the last half of the season this year and be better prepared for next year. I still and will continue to support our football team and program. We do have some shortages of talent and experience at a number of positions. Gaining experience is a must. It will be painful, but it will pay off in the future and we can not afford to start over every 4 years.
