I bashed on JG's playing while he was here because it was lacking at times but I will never in any way besmirch his heart, leadership or love of TN.
JG got a raw deal coming to TN when it had a coach who was not worthy of him (or us). He gave us all he could under the circumstances and that is all we can ask.
I used to think that, but after these last two years, I’m not so sure. Joe and Nico haven’t been much, if any, better than JG. Hooker was phenomenal but I’m no longer as convinced that Heupel is a QB whispererUT fans would have a much better opinion of JG if he had the opportunity to play under Heupel. Unfortunately, he was here during a period of time when UT had some poor coaches running the program. The guy gave it his all and for that, he has my respect.
This is BS. He did not literally "take a win away" from the team. Even if we score there, game odds still heavily favor Bama. Some guys have the intangible of being winners. JG had the intangible of being a loser. He's not a bad guy he doesn't deserve to be trashed. But all one needs to see is a rerun of that play against Bama at the goal line where he literally took a win away from his team by not running the play as called handing the ball to the rb for a score, and trying to jump extending the ball over the top where Bama took the ball out of his hands and made a TD the other way. It was a 14 point swing -7 for us and +7 for them in that one play. He literally shot that team through the heart on that one play all by himself. It wasn't bad coaching, it wasn't multiple OCs making bad calls, it wasn't poor excuses for teammates, it was all him, and his career was full of these type plays.
Joe Milton was drafted based on physical traits alone. Neither he nor Nico had a good year. Nico is obviously much younger and could develop, but I think the two of them have proven you can’t just trot anyone out there and light up scoreboards. Two QBs drafted to the NFL since he has been here. Nico probably gets drafted as well.
Your quote is shameless propaganda. Here are the facts:1 score game with 7+ minutes left with Mac Jones not playing great had he not tanked that play
Your quote is shameless propaganda. Here are the facts:
Even after a hypothetical TD, we'd still be down by 9 points, with 7:20 to play, on the road at Alabama, still needing a PAT, a score, and 2-pt conversion just to tie. While holding Alabama scoreless. Whatever "momentum" we had involved just having taken 6+ minutes to go 60 yards for that hypothetical TD.
Win expectancy on the snap: 0.80%. That's right, Bama had a 99.2% chance to win.
Win expectancy if we score there AND we score a 2-pt conversion AND we put Bama back at their 30 with 7 mins to go on the kickoff: 4.3%.
GTF outta here with your propaganda and still crapping on our players with your misinformation, years after the fact. He cost us ~ 4% chance to come from behind.
