Jashon Robertson to start at RG

4 of the 5 starters on the line (as of today) are Tennessee boys: Gilliam, Crowder, Robertson, and Kerbyson! Go back and look up some the o-lines we had in 90's-early 2000's and multiple starting o-lines were filled with in-state kids.

After 2001 that trend changed and so did our program. Coincidence? Who knows.

It's a good story-line for sure even if not directly related to success.

The interior is full of strong dudes that can road grade. Jashon is a stud. I feel better about having a freshman guard than a freshman tackle. Not a lot of guys stronger than jashon even upperclassman. He will hold his own just fine.

Agreed! We can hide freshman mistakes better at guard.

I'm interested to see how athletic Jashon is. We know he's crazy strong as a true freshman, I'm just excited to see how he does against USU playing at the pace we want, pulling, helping on screens, etc. Him and Jackson can be a great guard duo.
Two of the strongest players on the team.Another one plays right between them. They will look like a very large oreo.:)

Punter: Darr
Kickoffs: Bullock
FG/PAT: Medley

Darr for sure is the punter. From practice and scrimmage reports it sure looks like they're doing their best to get Medley ready to handle the job. Also, Medley has the stronger leg so I think he handles kickoff duties as well.

Given that everyone thought C. Thomas would start, this shows just how well Jashon been playing since the switch.

All we've heard is how awesome Coleman Thomas is, can he not find a spot at LT? Too tough of a transition or are Gilliam/Blair still better options there?

And you want your biggest and baddest inside if you're gonna be a great zone team. Zone is a lot like veer where the tackles have easy jobs blocking lbs, but the interior guys are the ones who have to get movement on the dline and create a crease.

I am a bit surprised that Coleman Thomas isn't in the starting rotation. He was receiving alot of praise earlier in camp, esp. Due to his overall athleticism.

CT is gonna be a major factor on the line for years to come. Right here and now Kerbyson is the better option at tackle. I'm starting to feel pretty good about the OL heading in to the season. We just need Blair to step up now and solidify the LT spot.

Good point. With as much praise as Thomas was getting, it is hard for me to imagine that he simply is out now that Robertson has taken the G spot, particularly since the Gilliam and Blair battle has seemed underwhelming.

I hope this is more indicative of how freakishly talented he is and not how horrible our OL is. Jeez didn't they JUST move him over to the OL 2 weeks ago?

You don't actually think the staff just looked into their bowl of Cherrios one morning and thought,"Jashon on OL" do ya? One of the bridges over the Caney Fork is for sale if you do.

He can still be quality depth at all the positions...and maybe allow us to redshirt Wiesman.

No but it normally takes a player longer than that to settle into an entirely new position. They don't typically get moved over and in 2 weeks be named the starter. I figured they were moving Jashon over to the OL to provide some depth. I never expected him to outright win the starting position over Coleman Thomas. I can't see how he could even be familiar enough with the offense to earn the starting position that quickly.

Hurd's job to lose

IIRC last week Butch addressed this and said he honestly felt Hurd was a little too short for the kicking game. Said he prefers PKs who are at least 6'7".

Medley has been kicking on stilts for all of fall camp. A little strange, but hey, whatever works. :eek:k:

He almost went to candy. Thank goodness we got him although I don't know how well he would've progressed at Vandy or if he even would've been moved to OLine...
