Jason Shay resigned at ETSU

Im not trying to make this a political issue, but I found this.

The NAACP just got this from Laura Shay, Jason Shay’s mother. There needs to be an uprising.
”My son Jason Shay was forced to resign as ETSU’s men’s basketball coach because he took a knee with his player’s in support of them. I know you can’t save his job but I would appreciate it if you would educate the people of Johnson City TN about standing up for one another regardless of race. I’m proud of my son for standing up for his team - his fellow men”

Wow. If this is true, if the coach actually kneeled during our national anthem, then I would certainly no longer support the coach or the team...IF he actually did that. Go kneel on another school’s basketball court, not this one. I believe Shay is a good coach...he’ll find a home better suited to him.

Yes, the whole coaching staff knelt with the team. If you go to 1:08 in the video with the article it shows a still shot.

Doubt it hurts recruiting that much. It's not like ETSU was getting or going after top ranked players.

No, but like most of college basketball they are recruiting an overwhelmingly majority African American team from the pool of recruits and those kids, whether they are 2-stars or 5-stars, they notice.

I’m not big on the kneeling one way or the other. It’s honestly way overblown in the debate and gets way more attention than it deserves.

There has got to be more to the story . If you beleved in the cause so much wouldn't you make ETSU fire you for it? Then make them pay? He if rolled over so easy the administrators must have had something on him.
Agree. And if he believed so much to take such a stand then why not say so? The letter from state legislators was not tied to any kind of legislative or state action. Also, a state school wouldn’t be able to fire him under such an ultimatum anyway. There is definitely more to the story than this.

I would stop supporting UT if they did this to a coach. I personally believe in freedom whether I agree with it or not. Sounds like you don't.

If true, good for whoever forced him out! The flag, to a lot of Americans, represents freedom and the men and women who fought and continue to fight and die for the freedoms we enjoy. People have a right to protest but they should choose another venue to express their opinion whether I agree or disagree.

Players, coaches, and educational leaders need to learn RESPECT for opposing views. During a sporting event, this is a
time for competition that fans pay money to see. I do NOT CARE what their political opinions are right, left or in the middle.

Glad to see consequences to those who cannot show basic RESPECT to others!!

Since 1998, federal law (viz., the United States Code 36 U.S.C. § 301) states that during a rendition of the national anthem, when the flag is displayed, all present including those in uniform should stand at attention; non-military service individuals should face the flag with the right hand over the heart; members of ...

A local car dealership is entirely free to quit donating their money for any reason they want to. If a coach doesn’t feel like he’s supported in a community or by boosters then it’s probably good for him to leave. However I highly doubt the university gave him an ultimatum over it. If so they’d be stepping on a legal land mine.

There is a difference in freedom and intentionally causing division. And that is the goal of BLM. This country has made much progress over the last 60 years and now all of a sudden we are all incidental racists due to the color of our skin. This country has reverted back to the 1950’s when skin color was a matter of discrimination.

I'm very curious to see how this plays out. I dont think that was the only donor just the loudest and most public. That donor is basically their Haslams. He also has his name on their nationally recognized college of pharmacy.
