Seemed to be a good position coach, but his recruiting was somewhat questionable. Despite having one of the best O-lines in the country and an opportunity for immediate playing time in the SEC, he failed to deliver a big-time RB to Tennessee in the last couple of years.
After a raise he was the second lowest paid guy on the staff. That's pretty sad IMO. There are others on the staff who haven't proven any more than him, I don't give a damn how many years they've coached. And you need to quit crying about him not landing a RB. It's not just his job to land a RB. Is it the DL coaches fault we didn't land Lawson? Is it Martinez's fault we didn't land Vonn Bell? You can't fault him for not landing a RB then give others a pass for not getting players of their position.
Anyone else not give a ****? I think he's a decent recruiter, but he obviously can't recruit running backs and/or coach them.
Why is everybody saying Graham didn't land a RB anyway?
I don't know about UT, but most programs I am familiar with don't have their position coaches solely recruiting players at that position. All the coaches responsible for recruiting have regions they're assigned to, not just players at certain positions.
And there's a reason for that, travel. You don't send a guy out on the road and have him criss-crossing the country recruiting only the players at the position that he would coach... that could have him going to a dozen different states just for 1 or 2 guys in each. You send him to Florida, or the Gulf Coast, or the Carolinas, or the Eastern seaboard.
I'm looking at who Graham landed this year...
Riley Ferguson QB 3* 6-2 190 4.8 1/11/2013 Matthews, NC
Malik Foreman ATH 3* 5-10 170 4.4 1/18/2013 Kingsport, TN
Paul Harris WR 4* 6-4 186 Upper Marlboro, MD
Jabo Lee RB 3* 5-10 180 4.4 Dillon, SC
Jaylen Miller DE 3* 6-3 265 4.98 1/18/2013 Gaffney, SC
Marquez North WR 4* 6-3 205 10/20/2012 Charlotte, NC
Jalen Reeves-Maybin ATH 4* 6-1 198 4.82 12/15/2012 Clarksville, TN
So, it looks like he landed 2 guys from Tennessee (who everybody probably works), 4 guys from the Carolinas, and 1 guy from Maryland. That probably consititutes a region.
8 of the other 12 guys he was recruiting were also from the Carolinas. Of the remaining 4 that weren't, 2 were RB's from Arkansas and Florida.
Looking at who he was responsible for, it looks like he wasn't even the primary recruiter for any of UT's top RB prospects except A.J. Turman, and he wasn't even that highly rated... in terms of rank and rating, he was 21st on UT's RB wish list.
If UT does it like everybody else, the program's best recruiter goes for the top guys, regardless of position. Meyer and Muschamp personally recruited all of UF's best blue-chip prospects.
