Jayvaughn Pinkston 2010 PF

Who cares.. Rather have Harris anyway.. If pinkston is scared of sharing minutes he doesnt need to be here.. He will do the same at Nova..

I agree, what's done is done we got the better player, but I hate to see people get their feelings hurt though.

Posted this in the Basketball Forum earlier today:

I've just heard some surprising news. Bruce passed on Pinkston after he felt we would land Tobias. Not sure why he would do this...

Seems as though Tobias (under the influence of his father) would sign with Tennessee ONLY if Pinkston didn't. Looks like Bruce didn't have a choice.

Spoke with JayVaughn earlier today and he confirmed Bruce told him to hold off on his signing with Tennessee.

Here is a pretty accurate depiction of what went down, summarized per a poster on TOS:

Pearl had been telling Pinkston that we wanted him no matter what Tobias did, and up until close to the end of the early signing period, this was the absolute truth. Torrel Harris had been saying publicly that Pinkston's decision would not influence Tobias' decision and that they could play together, and this was likely what he had been telling Bruce. Torrel probably didn't think it would become an issue, because it wasn't likely that Pinkston and Harris would choose the same school, and he was more concerned with not giving away anything to the media. So, based on assurances from Torrel, Bruce was actually being truthful to Pinkston.

However, once Torrel realized that Pinkston to UT was a sure thing, I'm guessing that he may have changed his stance and told Pearl that it could affect Tobias' decision after all. Harris is the big fish, so Pearl had no choice but to tell Pinkston to wait on Harris, which understandably upset Pinkston and made him feel like a back-up plan - whereas before, he was being told that Tennessee wanted him no matter what.

I'm convinced that Bruce wanted to take both, but was forced to make a decision at the last minute. To turn down a player of Pinkston's caliber after focusing so much energy into recruiting him otherwise makes no sense.

JayVaughn's Twitter page gives zero insight into what type of person he is. The only thing you might learn from those posts is that he tends to curse... often. However, that doesn't mean someone isn't a good kid.

Just saying. Most people I know that use language like that all of the time thank they are thugged out gangstas.

Anyways good luck to him at Nova.

to jayvaughn,
man seriously? you wanted to come to tennessee so do it. dont get your feelings hurt because a coach is tring his best to bring the best players to UT. if you cant stand competition then you shouldnt come cause they wouldnt want you but seriously? anyways good luck at nova, your second choice.

To vol_in_ga,

You have no idea what you're talking about. Tennessee turned down Pinkston's commitment.

Yes, and no player on UT's current roster uses language like that all the time.

You seem to actually have sources inside the program. This is very surprising news to me. Does it mean that they think they can tearn Cothron?

NC State looked truly embarassing in the ACC Big 10 challenge.

It didn't have anything to do with Cothron. Bruce was forced to choose between Tobias and JayVaughn. I don't have any sources inside the program. I've said before that JayVaughn is my source.

that is crap they didnt turn down his commitment that is crazy unless they think they can get leslie or and knight a 3 person class with one big would kill us next season brian williams would have to play 30 minuets a game or hall one ,plus tobias would thave to play 36 or so

I've seen Kenny Halls twitter a few times. That kid needs a spelling book and Jesus. Wow to his mouth!! haha.

As for Pinkston, oh well. It would of been sweet to have Pinkston develope into a 3 first 4 second type of player to back up Tatum and Tobias. I hope we get Cothron but we are probably dealing with the same type of situation (highly ranked PF makes lower ranked forward go elsewhere). It sucks but oh well. Chism will be missed dearly next year.

I don't know why Jayvaughn isn't going to be wearing orange next year but I must say it sucks we didn't get him. We could've definitely used him next year. Regardless, good luck at Villanova.

Then, they've started off on the wrong foot with me a little. This definitely makes me think the reason we got Tobias is he/his father wanted a place where he would be the man. If they would have made the same demand to UK, UNC, Duke, etc., they would have probably been shown the door. Oh well, I guess Bruce has to do what's necessary to get a Top 5 player.

I think he knows more about what he's talking about then you.. He has said several times his source was Jayvaughn.. If he says UT would take his commitment, why would he lie.. It sucks but get over it..

And stop calling out on of the few people on here that brings factual information to this site..

Interesting that he's still mentioning Tennessee

From zagsblog

Pinkston on why he didn’t sign yet, “No, I’m signing in April. I was originally going to commit to Tennessee but some things happened along the way so I went with my 2nd option in Villanova. Tennessee was my first.”

Pinkston on one thing most people don’t know about him, “I’m a good kid.” (smiling)

Seems like if Pinkston wanted to come we would give him a schollie. Not saying i don't believe it, but i seriouly doubt we turned down a player of his caliber.

I'm still curious as to what went down. I know an article went up stating it was a done deal, Tobias made an unscheduled visit, then Jayvaughn committed to Villanova and Tobias chose Tennessee. I remember hearing that both Jayvaughn and Tobias talked regularly and were entertaining the idea of playing together in college. What's the deal? Both players would get playing time on next year's squad. Was Jayvaughn afraid of not being the star of the incoming class. Can someone in the know speak as to what happened.

We definitely need some more size for next year.

Pinkston and Tobias in the same class would be awesome.... don't see it happening but if he hasn't signed yet. :)

supposedly they don't like each other, well it's mainly Pinkston doesnt like Harris. I think he doesnt like how Tobias is considered the best player in New York. He has a chip on his sholders is what it sounds like to me.
