Jeep Wrangler Unlimited - Any Owners?

Got a 2002 TJ riding on 35's and a 2001 supercharged BMW. Both are a blast to drive but when the summer rolls around nothing beats a jeep. Gas mileage sucks and you'll always want to buy new things for it but once you own one you'll always want one. Oh, don't forget to wave. :)

Just like bikers low five'n.. I get it all the time!

What model, and how many horses is it putting out? I've got a 330ci and been thinking about turbo(or super) charging it.

330CI with a ESS stage 1 Twin Screw Lysolm. I'm also running headers with no cats, BMW performance intake and will eventually upgrade to a TS2 or at least change my pulley. My water/meth project is next though.

With a TS1 your looking at getting 260 to 275 WHP depending on your setup, tune and gas. If your looking for the best bang go with a TS2 or 3. Most of it depends on if you want to open your engine up. Both 2 and 3 require new cams amongst other items.

If I had to do mine over I would have chosen the TS2. I believe their putting out over 300 whp, if I recall correctly. Also helps if you have the right gas for the application. Thier is only one gas station that sells 93 or above in a 100 mile radius of me.

Thanks Bro, I'm fixing to check into the TS2 then.. Quick question, I've got an after market intake on this thing and when you plug up the map sensor it doesn't run right. Have you experienced anything like that with yours/know anything about it? Tia

I haven't experienced it but I know guys who have. Depends on the after market. The MAF sensor parameters are set by factory and when an after market intake is introduced it sometimes jacks it up bc you might actually be getting to much air. I know that sounds crazy but the MAF is finicky. Have you taken it off and cleaned it? How does it run when it's not plugged in?

I know some guys have said cleaning it helped them while a few others though it was their MAF and turned out to be something else. I'll ask around and see what they found out. I'm assuming your on E46 fanatics?

Well, Bham, what did you end up doing?

Interestingly, I've been looking around for something I can get dirty and that has more room. I think the Jeep bug has bitten me. Really liking the look of the 4 door Willy's Wheeler. Haven't really settled on a color yet. After driving a couple models the other day, I'm leaning toward an automatic transmission (crazy for me), which is what the salesman recommended with the change from 4 to 5 gears. It will be a daily driver and the clutch seemed awkward.

I'm getting close - sold the Porsche today which was one of the key steps.

The 4 wheel drive logo on the Willy's is really cool.

Same here on the auto - thought I'd go manual but autos are much easier to get and probably will suit what I'm after.

I looking at either white or anvil clear coat in an Unlimited Sport. Definitely want the 3.73 gear and LSD. Would prefer dual top option but it's hard to find so I'll probably go with the hard top and get the soft after market.

As for mods all I have planned now is some Safari Straps to keep the dog in.

I test drove a white one in K-town this weekend, lifted 3 inches with giant knobby tires. Not sure I'm ready to go that far yet...

that's almost sacrilegious
selling a Porsche to get a Jeep
They ride like ****, and not as much room as a mid size SUV

I know, I know but I only put 500 miles on it in the last year and with the dog I just don't see that changing in the near future.

I'm going to sell my PU too and the Jeep will be my truck and convertible that I can take the dog in.

Won't be my last Porsche. Plus, it gives me an excuse to buy another that is post 2008 (won't have the potentially engine detonating intermediate shaft design flaw).

good luck the ex has a 2013 Wrangler Unlimited, and it rides no better than the '76 CJ-7 I had in High school
and to KD, go ahead and get one with a 2 to 3 inch lift, If your going to get one, it might as well look good, with a lift, tires and wheels

That's kind of where I'm going. I just need something more practical with two growing boys, a big dog, and an affinity for the outdoors. I've really enjoyed my BMW, but it's time to move on (for now).

So as an update I think I'm getting a 2 dr Wrangler tomorrow.

I decided to hold onto my truck so I didn't need the Unlimited. Found a smokin' deal on a 2 dr 2014 (the 15s are hitting the lot) in Atlanta. It's outfitted almost exactly like I'd order. No extras and but just the right options. The reason I say I think I'm getting one is that they are supposedly driving it over from Atlanta along with the paper work for me to sign. Have never bought a vehicle this way so until it's in the driveway I'm a bit skeptical.

Given the resale on these things I could probably sell it for what I paid for it so I couldn't pass this deal

Will update as soon as I have it.

So the deal went through - Jeep showed up at noon (did the negotiation yesterday) from Atlanta to my door. Signed the paper work and they gave me the keys.

If anyone is wondering the specifics it's a Wrangler Sport S (package) with power package, convenience package, 3.73 gear, limited slip diff, premium soft top, 6 speed manual. The only options I would have been interested in that I didn't get is the tow package but I have 2/3rds of the Max Tow package with the gear and LSD. Adding a hitch will be no big deal. The other is the Dual Top group but that is hard to find. Since this is for fun not daily driving I opted for the soft top rather than hard and buying an aftermarket soft top.

I ended up about about 10% off MSRP. Invoice is around 4 - 5% below MSRP so it worked out well.

Here's a quick pic.

The sun rider top is pretty cool.

Planned mods so far:

1. Get the ugly-ass white letter tires turned around to all black
2. Safari Straps rear extended cage to keep the pooch in the vehicle
3. Some type of sun screen top for the driver compartment.

Eventually, I'll be swapping tires for something larger and more aggressive than these street tires.

your mod list is a little light, I'm sure you'll do more

So had my first caught in the rain without the windows in experience. Torrential downpour while I was in Costco. Lasted a good 20 minutes.

Couple of inches of water in the front floor boards (lowest point on the interior).

Fortunately it was pretty easy to pull all (and I mean all) the carpet out. Probably about 10 or more drain plugs through out the vehicle.

Thank God for Youtube videos of pulling the carpet and finding the drain plugs (they are plugged until you pull the gasket).

And this is a brand new vehicle?
