Jeep Wrangler Unlimited - Any Owners?

So had my first caught in the rain without the windows in experience. Torrential downpour while I was in Costco. Lasted a good 20 minutes.

Couple of inches of water in the front floor boards (lowest point on the interior).

Fortunately it was pretty easy to pull all (and I mean all) the carpet out. Probably about 10 or more drain plugs through out the vehicle.

Thank God for Youtube videos of pulling the carpet and finding the drain plugs (they are plugged until you pull the gasket).

It's probably a silly question, but are the stereo, speakers, electronics, etc safe from water damage? I'm really close to pulling the trigger on an order.

I'd say close enough.

From my reading, it's not uncommon for people to pull the carpet and leave it out (some put a line-x or rhino type liner down). The drain plugs are all over the place so they must plan for you to spray out the floor board.

I certainly wouldn't spray down the dash, doors, etc. but It's probably not unusual to get caught in the rain without the top.

Not sure how much wiring is under the front seat but probably not much since it's not power seats (guessing airbag wiring is about it).

About to pull the trigger on an order. I'm thinking a Willy's Wheeler edition, tank color, cloth seats (dogs, kids, outdoors, etc.) I can get a good deal on the combo top package, so I think that's a good idea, as I'll prob keep the hardtop on in winter. Looking at options, I want to keep the price down, so no frills aside from AC, power windows and locks. I think I might get the upgraded speaker package (Alpine with amp and sub) for $700 but leave the radio as is (UConnect 130). I have no interest in nav or the touch screen.

Any advice? The Jeep world is new to me.

From what I hear (figuratively and literally) the stereo system is more about correcting design flaws than putting good components in. The speaker bar in the roll cage is all plastic and resonation is the problem. I'd say save the money; look into deadening the sound bar (dynamat and polyfill) and then upgrade speakers if you need to. Plus the head unit and factory amp probably ain't that great so paying more for better speakers may not be worth it.

I like the Willy's edition - especially the decal on the back. I got the Sport (which has most of the options you'll get). That is all you'll need unless you want to get nutty off road and then you probably would rather build than go with the Rubicon choices anyway.

Get ready to be flooded by insane mod/upgrade options.

My advice is get the basics with the Jeep and save the mods for specific choices (e.g. stereo) that you want.

BTW - I just put new tires on mine. Never thought I'd spend money on new tires for a new car but that's what a Jeep will do to your mind.

Also - I'd definitely go for the dual top. I love the soft top with the sunrider option. I don't need the hard top but given most come with the hard top I'd go ahead and pay the extra grand for the dual top since a soft top will at least cost you that and you have to install the damn thing.

I don't have one (can't afford it!) but a lifted Rubicon looks like the most fun thing ever. Too bad the ones around look like they never see dirt. Then again, at that price every little ding or scratch would be painful.

Prob 6-8 weeks. I'm excited but a little sad that I'll have to sell my hot rod :)

if it helps I haven't missed mine too much (yet). I also know they still make 'em and I'll probably have another someday.

congrats on the order

Well, my Jeep is ready, just have to pick it up. Question: was asked if I wanted to add the snorkel option. Under what circumstances would I need that?

unless you plan to off road and cross a stream or river deeper than your engine block, you will never need it

It's a jeep. Asking that last question shows you may not be ready to own one :)

Got my Wrangler this weekend...it's awesome. Has anyone purchased parts from Rugged Ridge? I know, I know, here we go...but I need a fuel cap door, a lock for the spare, and some light guards. The first big project will be some front bumper work.

Don't want a locking fuel cap door...just looks like it needs a cover. Locking the spare just seems logical. Pic to follow...

I don't have a jeep but I have an exposed spare and used gorilla locks on mine.

My mom got a new one about a month ago with leather interior and the works. It's a really nice shade of blue too. I like how it drives, but then again it must be a nice vehicle because she chose it over a new Lexus coupe.
