Jeremy Banks

But the Banks haters who want him gone, who say he had his second chance and all, they...they...they....
Appreciate Banks' contributions but will be glad when he's gone. Don't talk smack to Hendo and don't talk smack to cops—such a thug. Hope he makes it in the pros.
True and he almost had at least 8 picks this year counting tips and drops.
He's definitely the heart of the defense.
Almost, almost, almost... that says it all.

Am I really reading all of this criticism of Jeremy Banks as a person and player? He is a fiery young man from a rough background who made mistakes early in his career, got a chance at redemption and ran with it. He had been a huge bright spot on defense, the emotional leader on that side of the ball and our best LB for the last 2 years (and only good LB last year). He is a VFL who has left everything on the field and given max effort in turning our program around and helping set up our program for the best season in decades and future success.

Is VolNation seriously turning on him over rumors that he walked across the locker room, stepped on the T and then took exception to being told what to do by our offensive leader? Nobody knows if all that is factual and, if it is, whether Hooker was in the right in how he approached Banks. This is ridiculous. Banks changed positions, learned and became all-SEC caliber at his new position, earned his way back onto the team and stuck around after the coach that recruited him left. He has earned his VFL card and then some and helped us beat Bama, LSU and UF. Is everyone forgetting that Jennings was also a fiery leader with an attitude who got kicked off the team and ended up a Vol legend? You think Al Wilson was a choir boy? I refuse to lay the SC loss solely at Bank's feet....it's not like our offense played great in that game either. Also, the offense and defense are seperate teams within the team and have their own leaders and hierarchy separate from the offense. Some of yous are ridiculous!
All I need to know is that he was not allowed to play by a coach I trust. He screwed up that's clear. Not his first screw up either. Don't blame him for the loss. But sure as **** don't trust him. And he's clearly not a leader. Leaders don't get suspended typically

Just maybe the issue last week was they way to coaching staff took Hooker's side over Banks. Maybe both deserved the same punishment or neither deserved punishment. Maybe Banks is not the one that needs to be forgiven. Ever thought about that. We do not know the details of what went down. Good to see everyone playing together again as one again last night though.
Hope his excuse to miss practice was worth it!!

We pay Coach Heupel to make those calls and he made the call so that's the call I support.

Heupel has dealt with discipline issues with the team and I've not always agreed with his call, but I'm not coach and no one had more to lose by sitting Banks than Josh Heupel.

He's dealt with WAY WAY more in the locker room than we've probably seen but we've seen weed, flying cats, more weed, flying teeth without the team imploding like it did in Columbia.

I'm inclined to believe this is on Jeremy Banks because Heupel has a better track record of good decisions than Banks.

I'm glad he was back and if his teammates are good with how things shook out, I'm good.

Yeah, I explained one of them. Something else beat UT that night and it sure wasn't SCjv
Well you told me about one of them but that sure looked like SC to me and that was definitely Rattler playing like an All American. Our pass defense has been crap all year long. Everybody knows that. It was bound to cost us a game sooner or later and it happened when we least expected it. Those kind of things usually do. We ran into a buzz saw. A team that was peaking at the right time. 2 top 10 wins in a row proves that. I trust and respect CJH for the decision he made to hold out Banks. He’s done a pretty good job of that so far. We’ve had a good year. Pulled off 1 giant upset and dropped 1 we shouldn’t have. It happens. Go Vols

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but at one point in the game Banks made a hit on a ball carrier, they both went low and it was a helmet to helmet hit. One of the refs said something to him, I would assume telling him that was close to targeting and don't lead with your head. The very next play Banks made a tackle like a missile with his head up and blasted the dude out of bounds. Great hit and tackle.
I saw that and wondered at the time if the ref told him to "be careful, that was close"...

A big portion of our fan base wants to turn SC into a good team because they destroyed us. They are not a good team. They are a bad team. It was a bad loss in which we got destroyed by a bad team. It happens.

It was a bad loss. It was not acceptable how we played in that game. I still feel we should have won, and while losing games you shouldn’t does happen, losing games where guy shouldn’t and are 23.5 point favorite with a historically bad score of 63-38 is really really bad.

Now, the part where I think you are a little off is about SC. I wouldn’t say they are the best team, but they are an improved team. They did several good things in the game against us that deserve recognition.

We still should’ve won, and of course we did not play up to our capability, but they rose to the occasion and took advantage of that. Then they did the same against Clemson, a game in which they looked better as a team than a few weeks ago. They are figuring some things out and gaining confidence.

We certainly did plenty of things wrong to lose to them, but I think we we should both be honest about our deficiencies and also give credit where due.

Bottom Line: Get the Talent in here so that one broken link does not break the whole Chain.

We have survived this season on the Defensive side of the ball with several broken links but came through with wins. We have had injuries and suspensions. None of us know for sure what happened with Banks and we probably will not know until season's end, if ever.

It hurts, but as many have said CJH made a decision and Tim Banks did not have the weapons nor the answer to fill the void in the Defense.

If someone with NIL Money realizes his importance a few weeks earlier and pays the man what he’s worth maybe the whole incident doesn’t happen
Maybe just maybe the program shouldn’t have to worry about a player not playing bc they can’t keep their crap straight off the field. Like it or not it’s about marketing yourself and Banks did absolutely nothing to help himself off the field.

You know what absolutely increases your value as far as NIL? Being in a Fing playoff game. Maybe we lose to Carolina anyways but I’m betting it’s at minimum a close game. So once again Banks being a damn idiot cost himself and the team. Money and opportunities down the drain bc of his idiocy.

I’m curious to know what Banks did that made Heupel suspend him against South Carolina?

It had to be bad.

A pick six of Rattler would have changed the whole game

I agree and think about how terrible we played on D but the fumble hooker had not a forced he just dropped the ball due to pain but that unforced TO was a 14 point swing and added to USCjr MO and was demoralizing to already shook Vols. It was a multitude of happenings a perfect storm. I want to see us play our best vs the Cocks next year. Should be marked & hilited

Perhaps if we took the ball and scored first it might have changed the game. With this offense, we should never defer when on the road.

They did take it first vs Vandy & scored. I agree if you got the best O in Nation u take the ball and score. I think this was 1st time we took the ball after winning the coin flip. After we scored then scored again Vandy quit just think they were at home and just played their 2 best games. That would have been great to score first at USCe & took the crowd out of it.

Nobody here really knows. There are several variants of a story going around. These stories are basically about Banks and Hooker having some sort of disagreement.

This disagreement may or may not have involved fighting, may or may not have been partly or mostly about NIL, may or may not have involved stepping on the power T and not doing push-ups (team rule), and may or may not have involved Milton breaking things up.

Oh, and Milton did so either by playing peacemaker or doing something in between getting in the middle to breaking Banks’ jaw or pinning him against the wall. Some then assuming the defense intentionally mutinied once he was suspended. One variant has Heupel discipline Banks and Hooker unfairly, which is claimed to impacted the defensive players.

The story probably has some element of truth. Which parts are true and what are exaggerations is unclear. The real problem is people assume some or all of these details and further assume that the locker room dust up is the reason he was suspended.

Plenty of young kids fight in locker rooms and it doesn’t usually end up with players throwing games. If you follow the tree of assumptions to some of the worst branches you get a picture that looks really bad, but that is a lot of assumptions given so many stories exist about what happened all of which are second hand accounts at best.

It’s very possible even if some version of this occurred it was quickly moved past and the decision to suspend Banks was based on something else entirely. That doesn’t absolve him of responsibility but the fact is that even if the worst version of all these things IS true he is not solely responsible for the loss.

Coaches had to fail to address the situation adequately and get their players properly focused. Players had to fail at playing up to their ability. There is plenty of blame to go around no matter what the truth of events really is.

I don’t think there was a mutiny but I wouldn’t be surprised if there were distractions. What I will say is that if the defense cannot function well enough to not give up 63 points because one guy didn’t play and the backup can’t do the job decently that speaks to a need for better training and recruiting at that position.

He missed a team meeting Monday of game week for no reason. Coach told him then he’d be benched for the game. Wednesday things got heated in locker room because Banks thinks rules don’t apply to him.
