Haven't you said that before?

bro, are you trying to start an arguement? I mean you tell me to shut up in another thread and who cares if I said something before?

My point is that it used to be that you had to play for a major school to get the exposure to the NFL, but these days the league will find you wherever you are...IF you are good enough to play.

I'm pretty sure we would improve his draft status more than WVU. They run a 335, we run a 43. Which is used more in the NFL. In fact, does the NFL even have a team that runs a 335 as their base D? I would guess no.

For some reason I have become enamored with slippery rock lately.

Still it wouldnt matter. If he blew up at WVU in any system and showed well at the combine, hes going to the NFL. The only thing big schools do for you now is help your stock, but saying WVU isnt a big school is not the argument I dont think? UT or WVU if hes an all american hes gonna make the cash. If hes at slippery rock and an all american hes going in the late rounds only because of competition level.

The NFL isnt going to look real hard at what system a school plays for a LB. They are going to look at his skills, how he reacts, how he moves and how good is he. They do look at some positions that way but not a LB.

Local article on Askew (hope it's not a re-hash)

'I definitely want to get out of Virginia,' LB says -- dailypress.com

He's down to West Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina and Maryland.

As far as Askew's future at an out-of-state school is concerned, he should approach it with nothing but the utmost confidence. There are some impressive recent examples top linebackers that left the state to find success elsewhere.

Jerod Mayo, a top 25 linebacker in 2004 out of Kecoughtan High, opted to go to Tennessee instead of Tech. After earning first team All-Southeastern Conference honors last season, he was selected 10th overall in April in the NFL draft by the New England Patriots.

Askew's response to the late — or lack of — attention from Tech and UVa? No worries. He'll go where he's wanted.

"I kind of moved on from (Tech and UVa) when I broke my offers down to five schools," said Askew, who had 14 sacks last season.

He's down to West Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina and Maryland.

Askew already has a visit to West Virginia scheduled for the weekend of Sept. 26. He plans to visit the other four finalists before making a decision in late December or early January.

In narrowing his list down to five, Askew eliminated offers from several other elite schools. Clemson, Michigan and Oklahoma all offered him.

After logging a combined total of 228 tackles in his sophomore and junior high school seasons and earning all-state honors both years, linebacker Jerod Askew shouldn't have much left to prove.

That's not the way the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech saw it. From the perspectives of both of those coaching staffs, there must've been something missing.

Askew, a 6-foot-1, 230-pound recruit from Oscar Smith High in Chesapeake, isn't losing much sleep over it, and he really shouldn't with the list of powerhouses that do have an interest in him.

UVa hasn't offered a scholarship to Askew, who is considered by most recruiting analysts to be the best linebacker in the state and one of the top 15 linebackers in the nation. Tech offered Askew, but the offer didn't come until early this year.

Not necessarily. Antonio Rogers-Cromartie

What? You just proved my point....

Cromartie showed out in the Combine like I said. An the all star games...

Your post said that he would make it in to the NFL if he showed out at the combine. You then said if he was at a small, no name school that he would go late in the draft. Cromartie went pretty high.

Two explosive 6-footers are the final OLBs who claimed spots in the first release of the ESPNU 150. Kevin Minter (Suwanee, Ga./Peachtree Ridge) has a great blend of size and speed and is physically ready to make the jump to the next level (committed to LSU). Minter offers good scheme versatility; he could just as easily slide inside if he does not make the transition outside. Jerrod Askew (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Frommel Smith) has similar straight-line attacking skills and is an explosive prospect we are going to watch closely this fall for top-10 consideration.

Rex..This kid has been my favorite LB from day one. Everyone talks about man'ti teo and Jelani Jenkins but i would rather get this kid. Also I believe WVU is heading downhill. Stewart i don't think will be able to keep the train rollin like Rich Rod. I read that the job is pretty much Doc Holidays' in waiting. Any thoughts?

I like Stewart and despise Rodriguez... none the less, WVU's program is headed right back where it came from. They'll still look good in the Big East but I don't think they'll be a major player for the most part.

Hey rex, What's your thoughts on Mitchell-Thorton? I really like this kid. I was hoping we would get him and was happy when we did.

Although Askew is not coming this week he will be here the NIU game. Which means it will be his final visit and we can have a commitment on the spot.
