Jeronne Maymons NBA chances...

Are you thinking of the right guy?

Battier was a 3pt shooter at duke. The guy averaged about 5 three point attempts a game for his career, and almost 10 a game his senior season. He shot well over 40% in his last 3 years and was regarded as one of the nations top 3 point shooter, he definitely had a shot.

Battier measured 6' 9.5" and 230 lbs at the draft and was a SF who could shoot the lights out. I don't see in any way shape or form how a comparison can be drawn between maymon and battier. Battier was a top 10 pick with great size and measurables, and a great shooting stroke. I don't see the comparison???

I thought the same thing. I mean, Battier was the National Player of the Year...

I love Maymonn, but unless he develops a 15-18 foot jumper, he has no chance of being drafted, much less making a team. Cuonzo is just sticking up for his player. It's more likely Maymonn will play in Europe

I just can't see him in the NBA right now. I know I go back to him a lot, but Chism was a better player than Maymon at this point in their careers and had a good run to finish his senior season and still didn't get drafted. You can take all of Chism's "weaknesses" and subtract 2 inches of height and you get Maymon. Maymon might have a better handle but that would be it.

Chism was infinitely a better outside shooter than Maymonn too

I think Maymon is better. He's a lot tougher than Chism. More aggressive, and powerful. Plus you may be forgetting all of the constant bone headed decisions Chism was good for on a regular basis.

Maymon isn't nearly as good as Chism at this point

I don't know that that's a fair statement.

Chisms best year:
12.6ppg 7.2rbd 47%fg

Maymons last year:
12.7ppg 8.1rbd 56%fg

Chism was better arguably better defensively, but I wouldn't say by a huge margin. It's definitely a lot closer than you're making it sound.

Hard to compare stats straight up like that. Pearl liked to score more but had a guard oriented system. I think Chism would have excelled in the motion offense.

Agree it's hard to compare, but well never know. Chism floated outside and I believe that hurt him. His fg% wast very good for a big man, where as maymons is very good. Same could be said for rebounding, chism didn't go after rebounds a aggressively as he should've for a big whereas maymons a monster on the boards.

I'll say this, I don't remember mock drafts having chism(maybe I'm wrong) but were now seeing maymon appear. That should say something.

Chism floated outside or he probably wouldn't have ever got to shoot. And Chism's rebound numbers his junior year were very close to Maymon's.

You're not getting my point. I claim no NBA team, as I have no meaningful connection with any team. Does that mean I can't cheer on the players I like? I would really like for LeBron to win a ring, therefore I will cheer for the Heat. Doesn't mean I've been a life-long fan, it just means I want to see the best basketball player in the world gather accolades.

I'm just an NBA fan dude. Normally this stuff wouldn't bother me, but you are essentially saying I can't be a professional basketball fan because I cheer for more than one team. That's bogus dude.

And FTR, if the Heat and Lakers are both eliminated before the Finals, I'll be changing my icons again. I'M THAT BIG OF AN NBA FAN.

I get what you're saying and you can be a fan of the NBA but saying you'll switch your teams again really means you just hop on the bandwagon team.

I get that, but that hurt his stock IMO. As I said, how many mock drafts had chism being drafted at any point?

Whether its because of the system or not, maymon IMO appears better suited for the NBA than chism was. In any regard, all my OP was, was that chism wasn't clearly much better than maymon is as the poster was saying.

I think Chism was in a couple mock drafts, late in the 2nd round. It's hard to go back and look now that they have all been updated. My point is the same though, any weekness that kept Chism out of the NBA also keeps Maymon out (height for a PF, shooting range/consistancy, ability to guard a sf in the NBA) and Maymon is 2 inches shorter than Chism. Maymon may make the league, but he will have to have a breakout senior season for it to happen, because if he doesn't, other players currently not on that mock draft will pass him by. I actually just looked at this link and i don't see Maymon on it DraftExpress: Mock Draft

I don't think maymons height will hurt him too much, I see him being like Blair who is actually shorter than maymon. Chism didn't show that he'd do the dirty work inside, the tough nose rebounding, hustling and D like a maymon and blair, and I think that's what really hurt him.

You say maymon has to have a breakout season? So you don't think a 15ppg 10rbd 58%fg season will get him drafted? That's not exactly a breakout season as compared to his season last year. He puts up those numbers and I'd be shocked not to see him in the league.

15/10 would be good, I think whether that is breakout or not hinges on UT success as a team. And I am betting if/when Maymon goes to NBA workouts, that he measures right at 6'5" w/out shoes too.

Also, as an aside, Chism did do the dirty work. He routinely played the center when he should have been the PF. He was often the best defender on the floor, and at times the only true post defender, and played against guys bigger than him. He went toe to toe with Oden his freshman year and held his own. IF nothing else Chism played hard every night. to say he didn't rebound, hustle or play D is just down right false.

I don't think he did to the level that maymon does, but that's both our opinions.

So then let me ask you, if maymons drafted why was he and chism not?

The difference between Maymon's first year at UT and 2nd was astronomical. Most people had written this guy off. I loved the way he'd try to get the ball to the hole his first year. He just wasn't fluid, nor was he given the minutes he needed to get his game going. Steven Pearl, cough. If he had an outside shot this would be a moot point. He definately has the athleticism and grit. Cuonzo developed an outside shot in college, so who knows.

Tobias Harris, cough, cough.
