Jim Tressel (merged)

I don't think his baggage is as bad as some may perceive. A few others above him, but he is a winner. I'd rather his baggage than Petrino.

Exactly. People are blowing his "baggage" out of proportion.

He is def not my 1st, as that is Gruden, but if he said no I would not be mad with Tressel.

DT has 4 years left on a show cause, that would be a reporting nightmare for the UTAD; along with a great deal of on-going scrutiny for a program that is on probation for 3 more years.

Ain't happening.

Matt Hayes (SN) tweeted that he's a serious candidate for the job. I'm saying no way we roll the dice on the guy. One of Hart's criteria for a coach was "integrity"--please see "not Jim Tressel" even though I acknowledge the guy's coaching ability. Thoughts anyone?

Jim Tressel has a 5 year show cause so yeah...no

you really think Gruden is leaving ESPN. If he comes back to the college game its not going to be a war zone that is Knoxville right now. He wants to win not rebuild. I would love it, but not happening.

I thought the one thing Dooley did right is build the roster up?.:fool:

Tressel is not exactly a smart decision considering that we don't need any more suspicion coming our way from the NCAA. We just got another few years of probation tacked on, so why would hiring Tressel make any sense whatsoever?

At the same time, I wouldn't say no to him if we don't get one of the grand slam hires.

Yeah, I heard a guy from the 247 Ohio State site say that a draw play was considered exotic by Jim Tressel standards...not a guy I want. The show cause stuff is something this University needs to stay far away from.

But OSU won, if the team excicute no need for gimmick offense

I think we should give Butch Davis a look. Can build a program and recruit the Carolinas. His baggage isn't that bad - remember, he was brought in to clean up the U's image and win games. He did both.

I don't think Gruden is coming here, but I definitely do think he could have UT being competitive within a few years (if not Year 1). Don't view that as a big issue.

Rather, the question is whether he'd rather coach in the NFL ($7 mil +), or stay a broadcaster and collect $4M per year (while still having a life), vs. be a college coach at $5 mil.
