Jim Tressel (merged)

I like Tressel but just can't fathom Hart putting his job on the line by hiring a guy with NCAA issues and bringing him into a program that is on probation.
That may be true. But it's a false assumption that hiring him draws the NCAA's ire. It's like folks assuming Franklin would be a good candidate here, just because Vandy doesn't suck as bad this year as they normally do. Same with Cutcliffe. He's getting beat by most teams that should be beating Duke. But you can't tell folks who have been pounded in the arse for 4-5yrs that we deserve better.

If Tennessee has a more stringent compliance department, as a result of all the NCAA stuff, there is no reason to believe a guy who learned the hard way, would be more prone to screw up than one who hasn't. He knows what the paddle feels like, and for that reason, I think he'd run a tighter ship than some up and comer.

I think Frankin and Petrino would be a higher risk than Tressel. Many who know the man, will vouch for him as being a high character guy. To me, If Gruden falls through, then I think you HAVE to go Patterson > Jim Mora Jr. > Fisher and then consider Tressel. The guy has the most impressive record of any candidate on the list.

If Hart feels that they can sufficiently oversee the compliance, regardless of who the candidate is, then there is no reason to fear in this regard. Plus, with all this new conference realignment, I think the NCAA is already on the ropes for it's menacing approach on compliance. These major conferences don't need the NCAA any longer, for governance.

We were just given 2 more years of probation. Hiring a coach with a show cause(while acceptable) could open up alot of issues. Better options out there IMO.

OSU all-time record vs the SEC in bowl games to 1-9. Not sure if that win was vacated or not.
Dude...quit posting BS. Tressel lost to UF in the NC and LSU. That's all I can recall. That record your are referring to is OSU's ALL TIME record vs the SEC. You seriously want to pin the Citrus Bowl loss to us in 96, on a guy who wasn't even the coach at the time? :loco:

This is the disinformation and BS we have to sift through around here. Geesh.

How do you lie about something you don't see as an infraction? How many times do I have to repeat that. The NCAA doesn't care about Bama players selling textbooks, so why would a player trading his jersey for a tattoo be something wrong. The NCAA can always come back later and say, "Oh but we think it is an infraction, and you didn't report it to us." I can see why Tressel failed to report nothing as if it was something. It was nothing. I don't tell you that you can't sell your TV on LSN or Craigslist...why should the NCAA have authority to tell and athlete they can't do the same?

They probably shouldn't. But they do!

* Ohio State vacated all 12 wins from 2010, including the Sugar Bowl, due to ineligible players.

Anyway, in recent history osu lost to Florida, LSU, South Carolina in bowl games. Won vs Arky.

Dude, quit suckin' on Tressel's past transgressions.

Buckeye here...

I understand your misgivings about JT especially after the Bruce Pearl situation you faced. I for one think it will be tough this close to JT's failure for you to bring him in. That being said...

1. In 10 years under JT I can only remember a few times his teams were not ready to play.
2. We were in the top 10 of recruiting almost every year. With JT at the helm you will have access to the recruiting riches of Ohio where JT is beloved by nearly every coach in the state.
3. We finished in the top 5 in the final polls 6 or 7 times.
4. His teams don't beat themselves and play solid fundamentals.
5. His players do well in the classroom. We led the B1G in APR most of his tenure.
6. His teams get rivalry games. OSU was 9-1 against Michigan, 7-3 against PSU, and 6-0 against Mich. St.
7. His players love him and really want to play for him.
8. He rarely loses to the teams he should beat.
9. He will engender a new love for your school and its program and make you feel even prouder to be a Vol.
10. Most who meet and know him think he is one of the single greatest people they have ever met. I have spoken to him twice and I will never forget those conversations.

I know JT lied. I think the most important thing about this was the motive... I believe he did what he did out of love for his players. And it happened because he had become so successful that he was too insulated and operated without enough accountability. That will be protected both by the university and by JT if he is given another chance. I believe you will do well to give him that chance. I think it will be tough for your school to give him that chance however. But if you do UT will have hundreds of thousands of new fans north of the Ohio river!

Agreed on both. As for Petrino...I live in ATL and everyone around here thinks he is an absolute POS. And JT dominated the best team BP ever had until his conservative nature let Arky back into it. We were up 28-7 at one point in that game.

Did any of you watch this "60 Minutes" segment on college football?

CBS 60 Minutes Story On College Sports

This tells me that we have to get this hire right now. There is just too much at stake and we must make a home run hire.

We can not afford to settle for Charlie Strong or some other week B list coach.

UTAD To Halt Academic Donations

This plays into the whole story. We will now have more money to go out and get a 1st tier, "A List" coach. Make the right hire Dave Hart.
