OUA, look at the talent on the CC teams (the Jason Whittens,Johh Hendersons. Haynesworth, Donte Stallworth. on and on). What did CC ever win other than that one bowl game against Michigan? He played for 4 years as a starter. I would almost be willing to bet that UT sent more players to the pros that played during CC's tenure than any other time.

I know a lot of people think he was great but the pros certainly didn't (not drafted). IMO he was a LOSER who always had an excuse for the big loses!! :stinker2:
Uh, check the rosters Manning and Martin played with.

Yeah, but if he doesn't scramble and hit Lindsay Scott against Florida, Georgia wouldn't have the trophy.

Very true . . . Belue is revered down here for that TD pass. Nevermind that it was an 87 yard TD pass where Lindsay Scott probably ran 80 yards after the reception.

So to answer your question of what did either of them ever win - here's a stone cold FACT for you...

Casey Clausen (2000-03) 34-10 .773

Other than Mr. Manning himself, the next closest UT QB to Casey amassed 10 fewer wins. So you can dislike him all you want, but you can't ignore the FACT that he's 2nd in all the UT career record books.

...and HOW MANY QB's have started all 4 years they've been at UT? TWO! Here's a stone cold FACT for you...Clausen is DEAD LAST in wins for all UT QB's to have started 4 years.

Thanks for the laugh! :eek:lol: Tee Martin was a great college QB? You're kidding, right?

Tee Martin did lots better than either of the Clausen brothers.

Tee Martin was probably not a "great" QB, but he wasn't exactly average either. He probably had about the strongest arm of any Tennessee QB ever.

Whatever he was, he got to hold the trophy and in some people's minds that makes him great.
if I recall didnt he got 24-26 passing or something in one game? Thats a great college QB to me. If you watch the old 98' championship DVD it shows how good he really was.

tee managed the game well and could run and throw. tennessee hasn't had another QB do that since. :devilsmoke:

Casey Clausen had some top quality wins at UT, like him or not. The Georgia Bulldogs might as well have been called "The Herschel Walker Bulldogs". The guy was a horse.

casey clausen and rick clausen were very overrated high school prospects. there is no reason to believe jimmy isnt the same.

I agree with you, Jimmy could just have really good recievers when in reality he is just average as a quarterback

He plays in one of the weakest classifications in California in a private school league and he plays with about 4-7 other D1 prospects. There is a legit argument that it is more about the team then him.

Yes I do and I am very proud of it and Tennessee Football but that has nothing to do with Football. My A-Men was to the quote.

I don't think you want to make that bet, but if you insist, I'll take it.

Casey shared the roster with 5 players drafted in the 1st 2 rounds. 4 of the 5 were only at UT for Clausen's FR and SO seasons, and the other through his JR year.

Mr. Manning on the other hand, shared the roster with 16 players that went in the 1st 2 rounds. And you're right - Henderson, Haynesworth, etc. were/are all great players... but so were Deon Grant, Jamal Lewis, Chad Clifton, Leonard Little, Cosey Colman, Shaun Ellis, Terry Fair, Marcus Nash, Peerless Price, Littleman Stewart, Dawrin Walker...oh, I almost forgot a little ol' linebaker by the name of Al Wilson. Peyton was and still is a fabulous QB, but when he was here, he definitely had much more talent surrounding him than Casey ever had.

I'm not trying to take away from Peyton, I'm just trying to stop Vol fans from taking away from Casey just because he wasn't Mr. Media Savvy.
:cross:

And if I'm not mistaken Vol423, I don't believe Clausen started the 1st few games his Freshman year, but that's totally by memory and I've slept since then.

Sterling Henton could throw it a mile!

you know, i wonder what the attitude would be if this kid was 100% comitted to TN? personally, everything i've seen and read about this kid says he's the real deal. they guy that's been working with him personally, can't remember his name, but has apparently held off season workouts or something with the likes of Peyton Manning, Tom Brady to name a couple, says JC is the real deal. his exact quote was, "this kid is the Lebron James of high school football. He's that good."

Now, he could be wrong, and he could wind up a bust....no doubt. But for a bunch of us, maybe not all, we haven't even seen the kid play, so most of us probably don't really know a thing about him, except, as stated, what we've heard and/or read....

i'd have no problem with this kid coming to UT. If he's as physically tough as Casey, mentally tough as Rick and has an ounce or two of talent, he could be very, very good.

I just hope he stays out of the SEC East if he doesn't go to UT.

No opinion whatsoever on Jimmy Clausen but two words of caution re hype - Ron Powlus. If you don't know the name, call Beano Cook.

Neither did Peyton. However, they are the only 2 Vol QB's to have started at QB for all 4 years.

Actually, I saw a TV show that was doing a story about Jimmy Clausen. These offseason workouts were taking place on the campus of USC, but they were run by a quarterbacks coach that apparently coaches and mentors many of the top collegiate QB's in the nation each year. He even continues to coach some NFL QB's in the offseason apparently. This is not a quote, but to the best of my recollection, this QB coach said something to the effect that Jimmy Clausen was so good that he intimidated most of the other QB's at that camp, including stud junior and senior college QB's and even some first and second year NFL guys.

Different Powlus, Jake. This was the guy that played for ND in the '90's. Beano Cook said that with him at QB, ND would win 4 NC's and Powlus would win the Heismann, like 4 times. Ron Powlus fell on his face at ND.

Beano Cook was a raving lunatic, BTW. Is he still alive?

Nice reference, Asheville.

I heard that Heath Shuler could throw it 80 yards. Any truth to that?

He certainly had a cannon of an arm. I had heard that he could kneel on one knee on the 50-yard line and hit the upright on the goal posts with a pass. I don't know if that was true either (and, frankly, I find it really hard to believe), but that was the rumor.

I guess that is why so many schools offered both. You should get a job scouting OKIE.
