That and the fact that there isn't any QB competition once Brady Quinn leaves. Throughout Jimmy Clausen's recruitment, I always got the feeling he would run away from where the competition is, and go to a college merely as a fasttrack to the NFL. There is a ton at USC topped off by Mark Sanchez, last year's #1 and that USC is likely to get another top 5 QB in the next year or two. Crompton will still be around in Knoxville, and maybe another highly touted QB if the Vols make a splash this coming season. He may have shyed away from Spurrier because his products historically don't project very well to the NFL.(GAVol @ Apr 23 said:First of all, I wouldn't call it a snub. It's pretty common knowledge that Casey would have gone to ND if they had offered. Given that ND is hot right now and Weis has an NFL pedigree, it's really not a surprise that the #1 QB prospect in America would decide to go there.
At the top of the page you'll notice it says "Other Sports Forum"(VolunteerHillbilly @ Apr 24 said:Why is everyone still caught up with this. People still posting about it on all the UT boards. No way is he going to come here and compete with Crompton and Nick Stephens. I'm also not buying this stuff about Weiss not offering Mustain because he promised Clausen he would be the man in 2007. Give me a break. What head coach would pass up one of the top 2 QBs coming out of high school because you wanted to keep space open for a HS Jr to come start for you as a true freshman? There are too many variables.
