A HEAD COACH is only as good as his assistants-----who do most of the on court and scouting. UT is day and night from earlier---question is; why the night to begin with? All summer and early fall to prepare. Early losses just might keep the Vols out of the ncaa's.
No denying the level of play NOW.
Earlier: Maymon expected to be the focal point (out), Golden expected to play as he is playing now (but he was hurt), McBee expected to play more of a role (hurt), Stokes expected to improve inside and be the focus after Maymon was out (frustrated by too many cheap fouls and not able to handle the focus), McRae was expected to be the 4th option after Maymon, Stokes, and Golden - and maybe even after McBee (so he wasn't really TRYING to score).
Now: all of the players understand their role. The offense has changed from what was being worked on all last summer/fall to what can work now. McRae, Stokes, and McBee much more in tune and Golden apparently feeling close to 100% and in rhythm.
No way this team only scores 36 vs. Georgetown today or 38 vs. Virginia. Both games were almost exact opposites from what we've seen in the last games. McBee and McRae not forcing as many weird 3pt shots, McRae attacking more, Golden more in the flow of the offense, Moore getting more minutes and Edwards less, Hall not taking as many shots, Yemi getting more defensive time.
What do you call that? Adjustments and, dare I say it,
better coaching.
