There's more than money at play here. Listening to 104.5 here in Nashville they said some talk has centered around the academics in play between UT and Louisville.

Also mentioned was Florida fans are not to keen if Strong goes with us. If they're worried then I'm happy.

Am I the only one who was so naive to think that when it came to guys like strong, fedora, mora Jr and gundy that we basically would just pick who we want and they would be here? Now it seems like we can't get any of them. I had severe delusions of grandeur that's for sure. What have we become????????

No way Gundy was leaving OSU

Fedora and Mora have only had their jobs for a year. Mora is also a West Coast guy.

I didn't think that any of those guys were realistic.

I thought we would get Strong, and it's obviously very possible. It's not over, so we don't know what salary is, etc. But knowing how weak the field is, I think it would be smart for Strong to turn down low-ball offers.

If true, that is refreshing.

If getting a huge raise coming to UT and the SEC is not enough UT should never have to counter offer. To hell him, Next! Fedora

Hire Petrino, seriously.

I hated Hart's presser after dooley sack in which he referred to UT issues/challenges: first, it's mostly BS; second, you talk UP your program when you are starting a search--not the opposite. And let's be clear: UT is a great job--period.

I also think Hart should have got a decision from Strong today.

Hubbs says both schools have made their offers. Hart, his wife and a AD official have just gotten back from Louisville. Jurich has told Strong he wants an answer tonight.

Well, Florida could have had him and passed him up.

Hopefully, we move on.

The best job is one where you have the resources to meet the fans expectations in 3 years. Some might argue that the pressure at Tennessee outpaces the reality of how long it will take to get there. At Louisville, he can get rich, and have a MUCH longer leash and MUCH easier conference. Basically how Pete Carroll rebuilt USC, how Jimbo Fisher is rebuilding FSU and others(not that I'm saying 2012 FSU == Carroll's USC). Tennessee being a real force in the SEC is at least 4 years away with the right coach. Given the amount of money being thrown around, will fans wait through 4 years of not winning the East and 8 - 9 win seasons?

It's funny, we had fans calling for SEC east title this year or the next, and now we are another 4 years away from mattering.....

If Strong hasn't accepted our offer, we should withdraw it. Immediately. Getting in a bidding war and overpaying an unproven mid-major who doesn't even want to come here is stupid. We need someone who is excited to be at UT, appreciates the opportunity he's been offered and doesn't dick around both schools all day because he can't make a decision. Let UL make him the highest paid coach in college football. Better them than us. Good God, we're groveling over someone that isn't close to being worth it.

It was reported that Gundy turned down our offer, but he would still be open to another. TIFWIW

@JimmyHyams: 2 sources told me charlie strong told UT he's staying at louisville but UT has come back with huge counter. Strong to talk to team thurs am

Now that makes sense

I can't believe we are throwing bags of cash at Charlie Strong.. IMO, he's not woth the first offer we put in front of him..

Does anyone in the AD's office have a pair???

Gonna be a long, cold winter......

I'm glad hart fart wasn't in a big hurry. He said we shouldn't worry until December and that he has done this many times and that he is pro. Not only was his list ridiculous, but his back-ups are going to probably be WAC coaches.

If Strong is so great at recruiting, then WHY? we do not see any big names being committed to L-ville, ESPN 150 the top players coming out this year none are going to L-ville, there's no way he's worth $3.5 , just bring back Fulmer, hell he's already getting paid
Recruiting big names is part 1 of recruiting but when not at a stellar school you have to use part 2 getting good fast and most of the time under sized recruits that don't get that 4 star because there an inch too short or 15 pounds too light and make them into 4 and 5 star recruits there Jr and Sr. Yr. In short, strong gets the most out of his recruits with less by coaching them up and makes him a good talent recruiter and good coach.
As you can see I'm all for him. I think he'll pull 4 and 5 stars with the best of them with what UT has to offer and be able to coach them up

I've heard dykes to Cal - at least that one is off the table.

Sonny Dykes is a good hire for Cal. We did not consider Dykes because he coaches at LA Tech - the same school Dooley came from. We could not risk getting burned again.
