We're offering big money for someone who just lost to Connecticut for goodness sake....how many coaches are out there in Div. I and the NFL??? 100's 1000's...what are we thinking????
I agree lets move on Strong is not a great hire and we will greatly payI swear the agent wannabes in the mailroom can negotiate better than Hart. When negotiations get out of hand, you withdraw or tell the other party they have an hour to make a decision or it's off the table. We've given Strong the upper hand and all the leverage to use against us, and that's exactly what he's doing. He's not our top choice, and we're not his. If he comes, we're buying him for way above market value AND even then, he was reluctant to commit. We will have escaped a bullet if he doesn't come.
Look at the last 4 we just sat thru. If whatever coach comes in improves to 8-9 wins and keeps it close with the others, I think the fans will be ecstatic. The best job is one where you have the resources to meet the fans expectations in 3 years. Some might argue that the pressure at Tennessee outpaces the reality of how long it will take to get there. At Louisville, he can get rich, and have a MUCH longer leash and MUCH easier conference. Basically how Pete Carroll rebuilt USC, how Jimbo Fisher is rebuilding FSU and others(not that I'm saying 2012 FSU == Carroll's USC). Tennessee being a real force in the SEC is at least 4 years away with the right coach. Given the amount of money being thrown around, will fans wait through 4 years of not winning the East and 8 - 9 win seasons?
