Jobless Claims Soar to 3.3 million; 6.6 million this week

If you are a large multi state company then you are held to “Corporate policy” standards which are to be uniform across the board.

True to a point but there are ways around that. Peterbilt had a union plant here in TN and a non union plant in Texas guess which one closed.

Still not sure what your point is. A multi state company can have both union and non-union workforces. I’ve worked for several such companies.

Caterpillar has made a fortune off this business model , along with their 20% temp workforce .

Yeah, he walked out unscathed while the employees, subs, suppliers etc all got screwed. It is definitely something to brag about.

Its business.

This is how a capitalist society works.

When a business goes under because the business owner has a ton of personal guarantees and the suppliers come after everything he owns do you bitch then and complain as the business owner loses his home when he took a chance?

Probably not.

But here you guys are bitching because he legally set up an entity that the IRS both allows and recognizes and you have an issue with it.

Why? Because you guys honestly dont get how business works.

This is the whole reason c corps and s corps are formed.

Wanna know why the LLC came into being??? To protect a business owner even more from piercing the corporate veil due to missed minutes and accidental commingling.

You guys really need some basic understanding of business if you are going to talk about business.

When my father was running his retail business (before Walmart bankrupted him) his employees always got paid. His employees always got their vacation. My father... didn't. Yet when he went under and almost lost his house and everything he owns, his employees were nowhere to be found. You are right. CWV and the majority of leftists don't get it.

Watching dad go thru that was THE reason why I said I never wanted to own my own business. Right now, when I block in at the end of a flight and finish my checklists, it is not my problem if that airplane falls apart right there in the chocks. That might be viewed by some as lazy or uncaring. I view it as protection, because big corporations are not there when my car breaks or my roof leaks.

Both of my parents and both of my grandfathers ran their own small retail businesses. That was 4 different businesses. My brother and I ran one of those businesses after they were gone. I opened one of my own, and my wife ran it. So, my family was involved in 5 different businesses, all of which were successful, although small. None of the businesses went broke at least. Small business requires devoting your life to it. I'm sure SCV understands that.

Owning your own business = really low floor, really high ceiling. When things are good, they are really good. When things are bad, they are really bad. It isn't for everyone...including me. But I'm thankful there are people out there who do it.

What most working stiffs like me don't realize is that there are advantages to being a working stiff. We simply don't have to worry about stuff "the man" has to worry about. I'm sure there's stuff an entrepreneur has to worry about on a daily basis that wouldn't even occur to me. It cracks me up when people make comments to the effect of "Well of course he's got money, he owns his own business" as if "owning your own business" was as easy as flicking a light switch, or something that just happens.

People can’t understand Walton started off with one store or Bezos started from his garage. They seem to think Walmart just hatched from an egg with 5k stores and Walton happened to raise it.

This working stiff completely understands theres stuff I dont want to deal with. Ever. If that puts a pay cap on me, so what.

Yep. Although it is a fair point of criticism when people say that once Walton or Bezos "got big" they become anti-competitive and use government to build a moat around their businesses (especially Bezos). They essentially stop doing what it was that made the successful in favor of another strategy. Small business loves competition, big business does not.

You're one of the rare ones. Most of them I know (especially in blue collar positions) talk about how lucky the man is, how easy he's got it because he's the man, and implies that the man takes advantage of him. Of course it's bluster because they don't quit their job, but that's the typical sentiment.

The people who get rich in a small business are in the minority, at least in retail.

I stand by my original quote. I know plenty about business, forming them, running them, dissolving them.

Anyone who has worked closely with a small business owner (especially restaurant/hospitality) wonders how they haven’t had multiple nervous breakdowns.

I have had times when my employees made more than I did, and times when I took no check at all. For years, I took just what I needed every week to get by to pay home bills.

My mother was a florist and she traded out table décor fresh flowers for meals with different restaurants. We ate out weekly at the same place or two for years, and became friends with the owners, kitchen help, etc. Mother always said that she thought that the restaurant business was one business she wanted no part of. The flower business was bad enough in that the pressure and rush was similar on busy days, and since funeral work was such a big part, you were basically never off . It seems like every time I planned on going to a U.T. game, one of our customers would die. Inconsiderate bastards!
