its always been a matter of control. Of taxation and rights. If you aren't documented no guarantee of either.
Many illegal immigrants do pay taxes. Also, the "rights" we are guaranteed are largely just promises from the government to not violate certain rights we have--meaning they are subject to change or abuse from the same institution.
also its not arbitrary. Wars have been fought over control of the borders, empires wiped out by migrations.
So you're worried about our country being taken by force, or cultural change?
Saying it is harmless is just as short sited as saying it is the end of this country.
I didn't say it was harmless, although I think there would be a net gain by discontinuing our current policy. My position is that the government's job shouldn't be to remove otherwise peaceful persons by force, and that closed borders are generally worse than open ones from an economic standpoint.
