It's homecoming week at school, and today was decade day.
Some of the kids tried to pull off the 80s look.
I played this in class because kids hadn't heard of Night Ranger. I also played "Four in the Morning," "When You Close Your Eyes," and some tunes from Third Stage. HAHA
I printed out the lyrics. That's a lot of how I teach poetry. I have them write about song lyrics as much as I do poems. The goal is that they learn to analyze and evaluate.Third Stage is a great album. Amanda is up there with the best songs from the first two albums.
You sound like a really cool teacher.
Absolutely correct!I printed out the lyrics. That's a lot of how I teach poetry. I have them write about song lyrics as much as I do poems. The goal is that they learn to analyze and evaluate.
I use Don Williams's "Good Ole Boys Like Me" to teach about allusions and have them look up Uncle Remus, John R., Wolfman Jack, Stonewall Jackson, and Hank and Tennessee Williams. A lot of my students love country music, so they like that. It blows them away there's that much in that one song. They like "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" and Maiden's "Rime" as ballads. I like to have fun with it.
Edit: I still say "It's Easy" and "A Man I'll Never Be" are underappreciated great songs on the underappreciated album DLB. RIP BD.

Hebrew poetry would be great for you! Job through song of Solomon.I need to dig out some of my poetry books. My books are still boxed up from my move here.
Long ago I tried to read at least one poem a day. Hughes and Cummings were probably my favorites. Ginsberg and Angelou also. And Whitman.
Writing poems was always therapeutic when feeling down.
