John Calipari to KY (merged)

I posted this in the Mike Anderson thread, but it probably belongs here a little more:

Memphis news station is reporting that Mizzou AD claims Memphis has made zero contact with them

Calipari is still believed to be meeting with prominent Memphis booster Billy Dunavant of Dunavant Enterprises as well as another booster.

Via work, I know some people that are pretty close with these said Memphis boosters. Through some of the conversations they had today, the consensus that these boosters were going to make one last stab at swaying Cal, however Cal was in fact lobbying for Barbee. These same people were saying the same thing about Cal not taking any current players if Barbee got the job.

As for the FedEx money comments. Reports are that Fred Smith met with Calipari tonight as well, but keep in mind that FedEx is having some financial problems so they may not be able to bail Memphis out this time.

Hat - one of these boosters said that there was some word that the Laurie family you mentioned has had some issues with Mizzou of late and have expressed interest in helping Memphis. I think this was mainly thought to be help to retain Cal though.

WWWes will be pushing what he's always been pushing: WWWes. He and Cal have a "business" arrangement that works to their mutual benefit.

Thanks....makes sense to me....I'm not overly familiar with their "business", but I can imagine that it while it benefits both, Wes is looking out for Wes (as, generally, he should be).

Most of the Memphis fans that I have talked to today, with a few exceptions, have thrown Cal under a bus. If Memphis does manage to keep him by some miracle, it will be interesting to see what they have to say.

I haven't heard anybody throw Cal under the bus. Everybody I have talked to or heard from have been grateful for what he has done for their program.

Well, that's message board imbeciles. :eek:lol: Don't y'all remember when he was hired and everybody said he was just using the job for a stepping stone and he would be gone after a couple of years. He's been there for nine years, for crying out loud.

It sure is taking Calipari a while to come up with a decision.

Imagine if Calipari were to announce that he's decided to stay at Memphis. The entire state of KY would be in chaos and hysteria. NCAA titles have already been predicted, the red carpet has been rolled out and the list of players they would get are being drawn up as well.

Come on Coach Cal destroy their dreams.:clapping:

Yeah the longer this plays out I start to wonder more what's going on. Cal is very good at games, he plays it very well.

Buzz is speculating that the delay could be bad news for KY fans. I've never known Buzz to be a real insider though. Big Money is still convinced it is a done deal, but Fed Ex doesn't fly through Lex!

Billy never picked up the pen, I would hope they were not that ignorant, but then again.......

They are saying now that there was a "major lifetime offer" made to Cal last night from Memphis and others to stay at Memphis.
