John Calipari to KY (merged)

One of my best friends played for Fulmer (for five years), and he said he learned a new dirty word from Fulmer every day. He said he was a completely different guy behind-the-scenes. My favorite story was about how Fulmer would treat folks who dipped in the locker room. He obviously wasn't a fan of seeing his players to that, so his way of punishing them, was that he'd ask for some. When the player would give him the dip can, Fulmer would go out of his way to put the whole thing in his mouth. Then he's say thanks and walk away with a mouth full of Skoal.

Mark Story from the Lexington Herald-Leader was just on Dan Patrick's show. He said Billy G was fired for being a weird dude. He also said that he does not think Calimari is the right fit for UK. He wrote about that in his paper today...apparently.

I appreciate the story but I was joking. I've seen CPF cuss many a time.

Fulmer can cuss with the best of them. He tried to clean it up when dealing with the outside world, which is where a lot of the hokey "work like heck" catchphrases originated.

Calimari is delicious, so long as the batter doesn't get too heavy.

EDIT: I also like cuttlefish.

Cal is going to royal screw to someone. If he leaves Memphis, they are screwed - starting lineup consists of Pierre Niles and Doneal Mack types. If he tells Kentucky no, they will be making another Gillispie-type hire after a very public rejection. Ouch either way.

agreed. I can't thing of anything I'd enjoy more than KY fans making comments like "KY begs no man" being on the receiving end of that screw.

Would he stay in Memphis if we agreed to play him in Nashville instead of home-and-home? It might be worth it.

This is also a lot of the reason that Tennessee's coaching search was done behind closed doors. For those who wondered why UT used an intermediary to court, for instance, Butch Davis, this possibility provides an answer.

I'm not sure Barnhart could have done this behind closed doors because of the idiocy of his fanbase, but he should have tried.

72% say he's gone,28% says he stays. Memphis fans say if he goes they wish he never wins another ball game.I sure wish we could beat KY 2 times every year. And the turnament, and that's turn it around at TENNESSEE.:)

That's pretty hardcore, but if it's true that Memphis has matched, or as some rumors have suggested, exceeded KY's offer, then yeah, I'd be rather angry too if I were a Memphis fan.

It would be different if Memphis was short-changing him here and not providing a competitive offer, but that does not appear to be the case.

I still question why he would make the move.
i guess the tradition but he was rebuilding/building memphis to a national power and at UK it has been there done that and he will never be rupp or even pitino who he hates so the move does not make sense unless it is to fulfill ego to beat pitino on kentucky and on recruiting if memphis is offering same money or unless he needs to prove to himself he can win outside a crap conference.
he leaves memphis with what...80 game conf win streak.
really cant get much better without a natl title there for him

From what I heard Donovan was approached behind closed doors. When that blew up the BoyWonder got antsy.
