Johnny Manziel and the NFL

A guy like Bridgewater has better fundamentals as a NFL QB and will probably be taken before him. But with the talent he has, I think you will ultimately see a team take him in the 2nd round. He needs to adjust his style of play before he is ready for the big boys. Needs to work of his field vision, holds onto the ball too long - but again, that's because of an exceptional OL so it's tough to judge him on that. His play was greatly enhanced by a very understated offensive line. What gets him the high draft pick is his speed. When the combine rolls around - assuming he goes in - it will be evident just how fast a healthy Johnny Manziel is.

If Manziel goes pro and has decent or better combine, he's a first rounder. Too many teams are in dire need of a qb. I think you're right that Bridgewater will be taken before him, but someone will gamble on Manziel.

No way he drops into the second round.

There's a lot of zip on his throws. He should be fine in the NFL, but he's got to quit lowering his shoulder and taking hits. Just ask RG3

He reminds me very much of a former NFL MVP and 3 time Super Bowl qb Fran Tarkenton. Same size, same scrambling ability, and same determination and grit.

Exactly what I was going to post. He's almost a carbon copy of Tarkenton.

I see more similarities to Archie Manning than Tarkenton, but being compared to either is a huge compliment

Romo could be a decent comparison... just obviously faster. He has a super strong arm. Trying to think of a comp.

You are thinking too much.

Yeah he's cocky, sz.15 kicks.
Should have been back to back Heisman winner.

The way Manziel likes to square up and take on defenders when running makes me think that his NFL career will be shortened due to injury. He definitely has the ability to play in the league.

We must be watching different games because I always see him juking them out. Nobody ever gets a clean hit on him because he is so shifty.

For the most part yes, but a couple times a game he will square up. He did it a few times in the first half last night. Those few times is all it takes.

Bingo.... looks like a clone of Fran. Now... have the NFL defensive schemes taken care of little, scrambling QBs. Time will tell. He should do well I think. But likely going to be punished over time and that tiny frame will not handle it well.

I am probably biased here because I do not like "Johnny Football". I see an undisciplined guy (on and off the field) that reverts to street ball at the earliest opportunity. Looks like a coach killer to me.

He's done on a number on Sumlin for sure.

his ability to always find the open man and make defenses break down tells me you're wrong. Looks more like someone who makes a coach look great. He's more than just a street baller. He knows how to make a defense show their hand and then he beats you.

Yeah scrambling around to avoid a pass rush or "street ball" as you call it never worked well for Archie Manning, RG3, Colin Kaepernick, Steve McNair, Russell Wilson, Cam Newton...

It is pretty much the consensus that Johnny Football is going to enter the draft. And with yet another phenomenal performance to conclude his college career he has all but solidified himself comfortably in the first round despite off the field question marks. My question to you Volnation is:

If you were an NFL GM would you draft Johnny Manziel?
In what system or situation do you see him fitting best?
Where do you predict him being drafted?

Thanks for the opinions and Go Vols.

He'll do ok in the NFL, he has a good arm but he's going to have a short career if he doesn't start sliding

1) I would NOT draft Manziel. I would draft a QB in the mold of Luck
2) He would work in a Chip Kelley style of offense or a run first style (Seahawks).
3) He will be a 1st rounder
