On top of that , when you can tell a team everything your opponent will do and you play Gannon in practice....Monte's job got easier. I'm not taking credit away from anyone. But you can't argue the fact that Gruden did what Dungy and Monte couldn't. Who knew the Raiders better than Gruden? That defense was great , but some credit has to go to the man that coached them the year before. He damn near knew everything they were going to do in that game.

I see a lot of inconsistency in his coaching record, if he was so great why could he never return to the SB like a lot of the great NFL coaches have.

The Ark article has this nice little bit...
THE UP-AND-COMERS
Sonny Dykes
Current gig: Head coach, Louisiana Tech
Specialty: Air raid offense
Pros: A Mike Leach disciple, Dykes has strong ties to the state of Texas which could prove fruitful in recruiting. Hes the son of former Texas Tech coach Spike Dykes and served as a Red Raiders assistant under Leach for seven years. His Louisiana Tech team won the WAC last season and pushed TCU to the brink in the Poinsettia Bowl. This season, the Bulldogs are undefeated, ranked third in the country with 54.7 points per game and are coming off a 52-24 win over Illinois on the road. And in case the "air raid" offense turns you off, the Bulldogs are averaging 232 rushing yards per game.
Cons: Only in his third year as a head coach and has never helmed a program in a BCS conference. Considering his long-standing ties to Texas Tech, one has to wonder if his heart remains in Lubbock.
I agree. Not saying that Gruden wouldn't make a great recruiter or good hire for CFB but he's not Saban in that regard. Guy only made it to a wildcard game and lost both times following the SB. He's just over .500 as a coach at .540 on regular season when counting his time at the Raiders too. Dungey was the one that put the TB team together for him and Dungey went on to more superbowls. Dungey finished .668 on his NFL career, .759 for the colts alone. In contrast Gruden closed .509 with the bucs alone. Even in that regard Dungey bested him with a .540 while at TB.Jon Gruden at TB

I'm going to throw this out there. Of the teams who've won BCS titles how many have been popped for or had serious questions surface regarding recruiting?
A less pure fan might say 2 million towards "recruiting" and 3 million towards a competent coach goes farther than 5 million in Gruden's pocket. Not suggesting that or saying it's right I'm just saying between USC, and Cam, and suit scandal, there's some evidence we may be getting beat in more than just coaching.
Gruden fixes both. We already have the largest recruiting budget in the country.
Only idiots would think our current player roster is all SEC type players and are ready to compete against the best in the SEC.
Top SEC teams have had top 10 recruiting classes for 10 straight years or longer and you Grudenite idiots think our roster should be able to compete and Win against them.
I wish we did have SEC type players all over our roster already but Fulmer and Kiffen left our roster bare.
Keep dreaming you poor UNrealistic Grudenites because Gruden will NEVER coach at Tennessee.
The ONLY thing a coaching change WILL do at this point is to set BACK our Tennessee program for another 5 years.
Keep dreaming Grudenites.

The money I'm discussing usually isn't counted in the budget. Recruiting and name appeal is the only home run I see with Gruden. He isn't proven at this level and he couldn't win a wild card game after winning it all with Dungy's players.
