His record says he's a .500 coach who won one SB with Dungy's players and followed that with 2 wild card losses. He's no slouch but he's also no guaranteed Saban at this level.

Again, the team he beat in the Super Bowl was the team and system he assembled, yet you guys discount that with this argument.

I don't think anyone is saying he's at Saban level, except perhaps tongue in cheek. There's hardly anyone except Saban himself who is guaranteed to be at Sabans level, however.

I hear you. I also know he won a SB at Tampa and still got fired, which is saying something. Dungy's Tampa teams had a better win record and he went on to have success elsewhere Gruden not so much.

He had success with the Raiders. Second, Tampa ownership is horrible.

Even counting the Raiders his record says he'a a .500 coach. Don't know what to say. If DD keeps losing he'll be an upgrade from that but at 5 million and with as long as he's been away from coaching he's no slam dunk is all I am saying.

I always LMAO at people trying to blame the Gruden FAILURE at Tampa Bay on the owners, hahahahahaha.

Gruden won with the TONY DUNGY team and went DOWNHILL every year after that.

Old Al was 1/2 senile when he died but he never ran away from spending BIG $$$ on players he thought would get the Raiders back on top.

Old Al seemed pretty happy to get rid of Gruden and send him to the Bucs so he could avoid FIRING him.

I'll never understand why Grudenites want a FAILED and FIRED coach to take over at Tennessee and set us BACK another 5 to 10 years.

I want our Vols to WIN and NOT to be set back another 5 to 10 years because I won't live long enough to even dream of another SEC Championship like that much less another Crystal football in K town.

What was Gruden's role in bringing in talent to the Bucs? Did he have final say about who they drafted or did the owners?

I've seen a number of Grudenites say he's the only antidote to Saban. By numbers you guys have shared or guessed you're talking about 8 million for Gruden and staff alone not counting buyouts. That's a mountain of cheddar for a guy who lost 2 wild card games and got fired after getting a team to one SB.
I like DD but know he's not winning enough and unless things change will have to go but if 8 million is really in the budget for ONE year we could likely have more and even a better option than Gruden.

So how do you give Dungy credit for Tampa players and Al Davis credit for Oakland. Fact is Gruden won at both. He would have played for a Super Bowl in Oakland had it not been for the tuck rule against the Patriots.

Gruden is a talking head on tv.

Just because a guy can TALK on tv doesn't mean he can recruit 17 year old kids to come to school and play for him.

It doesn't mean he can coach in the always tough SEC when he could NOT coach consistently in a WEAK division of the NFL.

Gruden can TALK on tv but remember people...Dennis Miller has never coached a football team and he WAS paid BIG $$$ to talk on tv during football games too, LOL.

Gruden will NEVER coach at Tennessee, NEVER!!!

Ok...I'll take the bait. Tony Dungy's team? Really? He got no draft picks or free agents after landing the HC job? That's a new one. Are we also talking about Tony Dungy's team...who could never get over the hump, and had Gruden come in to finally get the job done? Pretty sure that's the team.

Getting to a Super Bowl is hard as hell. Winning one is no fluke. You have to have not only a team with lots of talent, but you are knocking heads with the best coaches in the league...who also have teams with lots of talent. Plenty of teams that have never won a SB. Titans/Oilers being one of them.

If Gruden had gotten himself a marquee QB, he'd still be coaching Tampa today. I think he realizes that, now, as he's made statements on some of his ESPN pre-draft shows, that he got himself fired by not drafting guys like Aaron Rodgers.
