Gruden makes about $4 million at epsn for an easy job--how many more millions would UT have to pay to get him to leave that job for the UT coaching pressure cooker?

IMO, We could offer him $5M, he may consider it especially since he would like to coach in college..$6M and up, would be hard for him to turn it down.:twocents:

If I was offered a job that would pay me at least $1M more than I was a already making, there's no way I could turn that down.:twocents:

Other reasons than money could be involved if he is truly interested.

Those of you that have not ever coached do not understand that coaching gets deep in your blood. Its not a hobby or a recreation. Gruden is a coach, you that look and say its a easy job and he would never leave it, obviously have never coached a down in your life. Sure, he's taking a little break, but it's so obvious that he wants back in just by listening, he's a former NFL coach that is still volunteering to coach his sons HS football team. If you have ever coached, you would understand this.

Found this in another thread.

QUOTE=WoodsmanVol;7334348]I want to win, I want to win NOW. But I also understand we're facing realities imposed by the Fulmer-Lane years. However, we're overcoming them. People who choose to open their eyes can see this. If Gruden is hired, WHEN not IF but WHEN he loses (lousy recruiter) you will be the first to whine.

From what I understand, Gruden likes to come in when a program is ready to take off, get the credit the 1-2 good years then mismanages the program into mediocrity. Then it's whine time again.

Thought it was related to this thread.[/QUOTE]

That dude is, ummm, odd.

Sadly, I'm the poor cousin of a mega booster. I also am friends with the son of another.
Those are my 2 sources. Yes I heard it from both tonight.
That's why I asked Jay to check with his source.
I wouldn't expect Hart to say anything different at this point in the season. Hamilton was in full support mode this far into Fulmer's last season. The dam broke just after the USCjr loss. I suspect another loss to Bama and to USCjr this year would cause another collapse this year as well. Can't be viewed as an improvement when you can only beat the UK's and Vandy's in the league.

I don't think we are the ones crying. We are mad as hell that our team has been reduced to this. The coaching level on this team sucks. Freakin get the correct number of players on the field. STOP THE RUN for once. Make XPs. Giving up 600 yards of offense is not acceptable on a regular basis here. You want to here crying wait until the Bama game when more than half the stadium will be wearing crimson.

He has even said he wants to get back into coaching. Maybe it doesn't work out and he never ends up coaching at Tennessee. But he's clearly interested in coaching again.

If he only wins 7 I think he will be gone. The Strong era can begin one year early.
I think Hart would have to lay out the red carpet for Gruden, just like Bama did for Saban....if he & the boosters want what Bamer has going on. Can't drive the Lexus on a Kia Budget.

What Gruden gives you is not just a good former NFL coach, who has a proven record of getting teams over the hump, but he has deep NFL connections...including his brother, Jay. Him and Jay would steal all the offensive talent in SEC recruiting circles. Saban and Richt would have to shop for scraps.

Some would ask why Jay would step down to the College level for the same job?...two words.
1) Monte
2) Kiffin

Another word....Family.

I'm on a roll, so here's five more.
1) Faster
2) Track
3) to
3) HC
4) Job

People greatly underestimate the lure Lane Kiffin + His Dad had here and now has at USC. That is NFL coaches.
If I'm looking around at the top engineering programs, not only reputation comes into play, but where the professors have worked.

If one worked for a major Auto Manufacturer, and that is my ultimate goal (to work for the same Corporation), guess what? That is likely going to be my pick.

Kids want to get to the league. A staff that not only runs the program the same as an NFL team, but also has lots of connections in the league...gets these kids attention = boom for recruiting.

You have to look at Saban here for the example. He has total control at Bama. What he says goes. All the higher ups at Bama do is give him the money. When he came into Bama, he kept the media at bay. He loosened up for a while and is now back making the media mad again.

If a coach like Gruden comes here, he while have to have this same type of control. He would have to run the entire program, as it should be.

I just want to see the drunk chick at the airport!

Don't get me wrong. I think he would be great. I just don't believe we would spend the money. If I'm wrong I will be happy about it.
My posts are based on what I want crossed with what I think can and/or will happen.

Bad news.
I hear Hart is telling our boosters CDD is our guy
Tifwiw

I believe you. But you can't expect Hart to say anything any different. For any other reason it's unethical in the first place for a person in charge of a dept. to openly discuss a replacement for a current coach.

You are correct, there still is a code of honor in coaching circles.
